A quality line-up of beef-cross calves made up the majority of the 204 calves yarded today. With Friesian bull numbers coming to an end, the top calves were still in good demand and sold well. Overall, the beef-cross bulls and heifers met a strong market, with quality calves continuing to fetch top money.

As calving is well over halfway, the numbers dropped to 344 head today with Beef x calves making up most of the yarding. A good buying bench achieved a strong market again this week. Good Frsn bulls were fetching $150 - $200, and medium bulls making $100 - $140. WH bulls were fetching $250 - $345 and Angus x bulls were making $140 - $285, and a top pen of SIMM x bulls made $490. In the heifer pens, good Black WH heifers were making $150 - $235, and Angus x hfrs sold for $60 - $100, with Charolais x hfrs making $220.

In the cattle pens, 174 cattle rolled in today with the market strong overall, with good buyer support online with bidr. R2 Dairy Beef x Steers were fetching $5 - 5.04kgLW, with R2 Dairy Beef x hfrs making $5.18kgLW. A line of R1 Frsn bulls sold for $1,260 or $6.38kgLW. AUT Frsn wnr bulls were fetching $900, and cull cows were making $2.73 - $3.66kgLW depending on condition and weight. For full results, see charts below.👇

A total of 573 calves were sold across the Rongotea and Dannevirke sales this week. The market remained strong overall, with buyers from Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Whanganui, Tararua and the local areas competing for calves. Quality Beef-cross calves were particularly well sought after, while Friesian bull prices varied depending on size and quality.

🔹 Good Friesian bulls: $140–$230
🔹 Medium Friesian bulls: $100–$150
🔹 Black WH bulls: $300–$490
🔹 Angus × bulls: up to $330
🔹 Charolais × bulls: $340–$490
🔹 Speckle Park × bulls: up to $240
🔹 Black WH heifers: $220–$340
🔹 Angus × heifers: $100–$260
🔹 Charolais × heifers: $190–$360

📈 Market Direction
Demand for well-marked, strong Beef-cross calves remained firm, with Charolais and Black WH calves producing the week’s top results. Friesian bulls continued to meet a selective market, with buyers paying a clear premium for the heavier, better-quality calves.
