Cursive writing on historical documents is both blessing (they are beautiful) and a curse (it can take some time to learn to understand).

Add to that the fact that it’s difficult to know where to find them, and that the most interesting ones are in te reo, the circle of those who can read, understand and extract information is small.

Fortunately, we have the expertise to do all three!

For the third year running, our research lead is facilitating an all day workshop on researching through the Māori Land Court record. This year the workshop is run in partnership between the Māori Land Court and Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake Trust.

We specialise (though not limited to) land tenure research, which means we spend a lot of time searching through the records of the Māori Land Court both the paper version and online at Pātaka Whenua.
