Wine Club Taupō were thrilled to have Kirsten from Matawhero Wines join us in late August for our monthly tasting night. For white wine lovers this was your night with 6 of the 8 wines being white, and just 1 Rosé and 1 red! There was an extra treat for those attending as we also had a 2016 Chenin Blanc out of the clubs cellar to compare to the 2025 vintage. Amazing to see the difference 9 years of cellaring makes to how the wine tastes, both were delicious!

The Pinot Noir Deep Dive led by the wine clubs very own Sam Harberger was so much fun! Great to learn about how the region, terroir, vineyard and winery can all impact the wine. We got to try 5 great Pinots from around the world, including two from New Zealand:

🍷Ata Rangi Martinborough Crimson (Martinborough)
🍷Terra Sancta Mysterious Diggings (Central Otago)

We’ve got a double lineup for July’s tasting night on Wednesday 22nd July!
Join us from 6-7pm for our Pinot Noir Deep Dive session, the second in a three-part series into world-famous grapes and how they differ around the world and within New Zealand.

Then from 7.30pm we’re joined by Mudbrick for a club night tasting from this famous Waiheke winery.

For June’s wine club tasting we had a chance to pull the corks on something special. Chris Scott joined us to pour through his lineup of chrisscottwines Chardonnays; The Briny Wink, The Stone Giants and The Florilegium - all incredibly delicious and unique expressions of one of our favourite grapes! We were also treated to a barrel sample of The Folly that had everyone swooning and a complementary lineup of Church Road Winery cellar door wines.
A big thank you to Chris for sharing not just the bottles but his approach and insights behind them.
