We're lucky enough to work with James and the team at Bleeker & Weith, and they're genuinely good people to deal with.

What I like about these guys is they're always looking ahead. They invest in their team, improve their systems, take pride in their work, and aren't afraid to tackle challenging projects.

There's some exciting work lined up this year, and they're looking for another engineer to join the crew.

If you're a fabricator, welder, fitter, or know someone who can turn their hand to stainless, alloy, carbon steel, or a mix of all three, this could be a great opportunity.

You'll be joining a solid team, working on interesting projects, and working for people who genuinely care about doing a good job and looking after their crew.

Have a look at the post below or tag someone who might be a good fit.

Really enjoyed spending time with the Timaru Boys High School Hockey1st & 2nd XI Hockey teams recently working through "The Team Code" Communication Compass workshop.

Sport is never just about skill. We focused on communication under pressure, understanding different personalities and styles, and how strong teams are built through trust, accountability, and support for each other.

Awesome group of young men to work with and great to see the engagement and honesty in the room - great conversations, good energy, and a few laughs along the way (and yes… the M&Ms were definitely a highlight).

Always good to be able to give back and support local teams and young people developing both on and off the turf.

Fuel’s gone up.

You’ve seen it.

But here’s the real question…

How many jobs this week had travel you didn’t charge?

That’s where the money’s going.

Not the pump.

The job.

We’re seeing fuel up 20–30% in places.

But most businesses haven’t changed anything:

- travel isn’t tracked properly

- mileage isn’t tied to jobs

- it all gets buried as “overhead”

So now you’ve got:

- higher costs

- same pricing

- and jobs quietly losing margin

And you don’t see it happening.

Quick test:

Think about this week.

How many times did a vehicle leave the yard…

…and that cost never made it onto a job?

That’s your leak.

Simple fix:

- track the km

- attach it to the job

- make it visible

Then decide how you recover it.

Because guessing…

or relying on IRD rates… won’t cut it anymore.

If it’s not in the job, it’s coming off your bottom line.

Thanks for having me Timaru Boys’ High School and Gareth Wood.

Really enjoyed the session with the Year 12 Business Studies class talking about what actually motivates people at work.

We talked about the real stuff that affects productivity and culture in a business. Good leadership, clear expectations, trust, and people feeling like their work matters.

Some great questions from the boys. Always good to see young people thinking about how workplaces can be run better. The future of business is looking pretty good!

Sometimes it’s not a holiday that will fix things.

It’s a break from being the one who decides everything.

Every question.
Every problem.
Every “just checking”.
Every small call that climbs back up to you.

That’s what drains you.

Not the work.
The constant deciding.

If your phone never stops, it’s usually not a people problem.

It’s a decision clarity problem.

Your team need to know three things:

• What they can decide without you
• What they decide and tell you
• What must come to you first

If those lines aren’t clear, everything defaults to you.

And you never get a break.

You don’t need to let go of control.

You need to stop being the default decision for everything.

Simple isn’t stupid. It works.

Great at your job.
Not so great at the people stuff?

Good on the tools.
Not a fan of awkward conversations?

That doesn’t make you a bad leader.
It means you were trained to fix work - not people problems.

The mistake most people make is overthinking it… or avoiding it.

Keep it simple: What, So What, Now What

WHAT happened

SO WHAT that caused

NOW WHAT needs to change

Say it.
Stop talking.
Move on.

Simple isn’t stupid.
It works.

If you’re good on the tools but want to get more confident with the people stuff, Onsite Insight can help your business.

Practical support.
Clear tools.
No corporate nonsense.

Drop us a message or give us a call, we'd love to help 😊

You’ve probably set a goal for this year.

Be honest.
Do you actually know how it’s going to happen?

Not the outcome you want.
The specific things that change week to week.

Most goals fail because nothing in the day-to-day changes. Same routines. Same habits. Same pressure. Just a new intention.

James Clear explains this well in Atomic Habits (highly recommend the read).
Goals are what you want.
Systems are what you do.

If there’s no system, the goal relies on motivation. And motivation disappears fast once work gets busy.

This is exactly the work we do at Onsite Insight.
We help businesses design and put in place practical systems that actually change how work runs.

Results don’t change until the system does.

Day 2 upgrade.

Hotel TV + HDMI cable = second screen sorted.
Ironing board still pulling its weight.

Good chance to get head down and get some solid work done while my daughter’s in ballet school here in Wellington.

Make it work with what you’ve got.

Most work problems don’t start in the morning.
They start because yesterday wasn’t properly closed off.

P • L • A • N is one of our Simple Isn’t Stupid tools at Onsite Insight.
It’s a quick end-of-day check.

P•rogress – what actually got done today.

L•ook ahead – what’s on tomorrow’s radar and what matters most if things get tight.

A•ssets – do you have the right people, gear, materials, and info lined up.

N•iggles – what needs sorting or flagging now before it becomes a problem.

It only takes a few minutes and it’s especially useful if you’re running a team or managing multiple jobs.

Small checks like this stop issues rolling into the next day.
Small things like this have a big impact on how work actually runs.

Whether it’s a few tweaks to how you work or a implementing a full job management system - big or small, we’re always here and happy to help at Onsite Insight 😊
