NZTMS has been in the capital carrying out pitch quality audits of the fields at NZCIS as well as checking in on the status of the indoor turf (greenroom). This facility has come together so well this past year and it's exciting to see athletes using these surfaces!

Over the past couple of years, we have developed an objective method of measuring bunker performance.

The Bunker Performance Review System (BPRS) focuses on measuring only the key performance criteria associated with bunker maintenance and playability.

The programme generates an objective score for each bunker and can be used by a course super or club committee to review bunker performance and/or prioritise the selective removal or renovation of bunkers.

It was great to see Rob Tinholdt of watercare on TV this week, discussing the potential benefits of struvite as an environmentally sustainable soil amendment. This is a really exciting space and we are seeing some very positive data returning from our turf trials with watercare.

I was unaware of these benefits before a meeting with Rob over 1 year ago. Over the past 12 months I've had the privilege of seeing the data come through and we have already started using struvite on sportsfield grow-ins and constructions this season!

The fertiliser is made from leftover crystalised chemicals and Auckland's waste that comes from Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Today we set up our autumn/winter field trial for Watercare We have set up sand (turf) and soil (pasture) based replicates to measure differences across a range of key scoring criteria between the following treatments:

UTC
Biosolids and Struvite
Struvite
Struvite and
Phosphorus and Urea

Over the course of the trial period we will take soil nutrient analysis, as well as turfgrass/pasture grass performance measurements.

We are looking forward to sharing the results of this trial work and working with Watercare to research sustainable soil/plant nutrient options for the turf and agriculture sectors 🌱
