Grava Two dots on a map. New Zealand and Spain. Diametrically opposite yet utterly connected. Grava - making wine here (and there). Friday/Saturday.

Available at our Tasting Room at 50 Kitchener St, Martinborough. Bookings, see: https://grava.nz/tasting-room Grava Wines Ltd was founded in 2014. The well-established vineyard sits on the alluvial soils of the Southern Wairarapa in the heart of the winegrowing region of Martinborough. It produces high quality wines from Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. We make our wines in a small

winery in the heart of the Martinborough township. Wines are available for tastings at our cellar door at the winery (50 Kitchener Street, Martinborough), through our website, and through selected restaurants and other outlets. Grava means gravel in Spanish. While we’re a family of committed New Zealanders, winemaker and viticulturalist Alistair Gardner has spent more than a decade in Spain perfecting his craft. When we found ideal gravelly soils on the Dry River flats of Martinborough, we put our roots down and paid homage to Iberia with our company name.

THREE MAKERS. ONE PLACE.
Together with some friends, we’ve created a very special 6 pack and called it the Community Collective Case.

This case is a selection of wines that have been made by three different winemakers from grapes grown at the certified organic Grava vineyard in Martinborough, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Grava winemaker, Alistair Gardner, Halite winemaker Haidee Johnson and Huntress winemaker Jannine Rickards each make wine in their own way, expressing their own vision but sharing a philosophy of respect of the land — along with a love of good wine.

This limited edition case is a celebration of our shared values and is online now across all three winery stores.

¡Salud!

And here in the winery, as harvest begins in earnest, preparations are underway.
The tractors are checked, the presses stand ready, and the fermenters await their first cargo of grapes. Yet seasoned hands know that the most important machinery of the vintage is not found in the vineyard at all.
Here it is.
The coffee machine.
Before the sun has properly risen above the vines, this dependable device is already hard at work — delivering cup after cup of dark encouragement to the cellar crew. For harvest, as any winemaker will tell you, is a marathon rather than a sprint. Long days, early mornings, and the occasional midnight pump-over demand stamina of the highest order. And while the vines may provide the grapes, it is the coffee that keeps the vintage moving.
Steady, reliable, and seldom given the credit it deserves — the coffee machine —the quiet workhorse of the winery.

Grava Riesling 2023.
95 Points. Mike Bennie approved.
"This has some mettle and thrust. Lemon-lime sorbet with a touch of green almond, some gingery notes, a savoury edge generally, which feels very appealing and delivers additional complexity. Excellent extension of flavour, great perfume. Fantastic drinking." — Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
