Over the years, I’ve observed many companies invest heavily in showcasing their products or services at large commercial and business expos.

However, many fail to reap the full benefits because they focus solely on securing immediate sales.

The Importance of a Database Protocol within a Business

Recently, one of my team members began updating a client database containing over 500 records, and the state of it has left me amazed. This is not unusual. From the first 20 entries, we discovered that 7 of the companies are no longer in business. By the time we had processed 150 records, the sheer volume of errors and outdated information required substantial corrections. e.g. The entire address in one field, names spelt incorrectly, no email address, no phone numbers and the list goes on. It’s remarkable the business has been able to operate effectively with such a disorganised and inaccurate database.

This situation is a prime example of the need for a mandatory database protocol within any business. A company is only as strong as the data it relies on. Inconsistent, inaccurate, and out-of-date information can quickly become a costly and time-consuming, leading to poor decision-making, loss of clients, or even legal risks.

The disarray in our client’s database highlights the importance of maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and consistent data within any business. A mandatory database protocol not only ensures the reliability of your records but also supports informed decision-making, protects customer data, and increases operational efficiency. Don't let outdated data hold your business back. Often we're busily looking for new customers. Keep in touch with those customers who already know you. Update your database, but be cautious - don't just assign someone to clean the database with a quick-fix mentality. You need ongoing attention and strategic updates for sustained success. Keep your CRM regularly updated with accurate, relevant information to make informed decisions and provide the best possible service to your prospects and clients.
