The Shady Sheep Baa & Yarn Shop

The Shady Sheep Baa & Yarn Shop A high class establishment situated on Stratford's picturesque lower east side. Ewe won't leave disappointed.

The Shady Sheep Baa & Yarn Shop was established at 1803pm at historic premises formerly occupied by an unruly le***an detention center. After painstaking renovations, including the installation of a 3m projection screen and the now famous Donalds wool press bar leaners, "The Sheep" quickly established itself as Stratford's hottest night spot. Offering the finest baa facilities in the Central Taran

aki region, and such widely known activities as the prestigious "Haw of the week" award, kiwi and/or ping pong tournaments, pool, dodgey Thai dice, darts and many good yarns, the baa has something for everyone from the steamed cretin, to the workday businessman. Recent additions include sanitary and accurate drink dispensing units, several television channels, and bar stools for the hefty lass. You will also find an in-house outhouse bathroom facility, and the polite yet trusting Leonard will keep your beverages chilled throughout the evening. From the start, the management of the baa took a hard line approach towards vandalism and blatent misconduct, banning any oxygen thieves from future attendance and thus maintaining the high overall tone of the premises. Whether your are a visiting tourist/terrorist, or long-standing local yokel, swing on down to the Shady Sheep Baa & Yarn Shop, Stratford's baa by faa.

Struth Ruth, they’ve done it again!

Ten years ago, those un-baa-lieveably good sorts from The Shady Sheep came up with this wild idea after a few cold ones. What if we rode some 50cc scooters along the Forgotten Highway to Whangamomona? Can it even be done?! Well we don’t claim to have been the first to do it, but we can confidently say by now that we are the best at it!

This year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Shady Sheep Tour de Whanga, we threw in a bit of special sauce with a longer scenic route to spice things up a bit. This challenging test of head and hogget took its toll on a few, but when the whole wooly rabble pulled into the republic, it was all worth the worry!

Do ewe reckon ewe’ve got what it takes to fleece the saddles and valleys of the eastern Taranaki hill country on nothing but a lamb-mentable little bike? Well save a sheep, and ride a scooter! We’ll be doing it all again next year and we’d love to shear it with ewe.

Champions! Those cunning flockers at The Shady Sheep have been at it again, and this time they took home a hard earned 1st place at the annual Shenanigans 500!

This event is not for the faint of fleece, and after 2.5 hours of hard fought laps and competitive refreshments, The Shady Sheep A team took the top honours in the modified hot rod category, on the highly developed SS125 Superbug. You better baa-lieve it, Simon, Matt, Mike, Gibb, Bryce and Justin earnt this one!

In the stock bike category, The Shady Sheep B team also put in a rock solid performance after some early mechanical dramas. Top work from Bryce, Troy, Butters and Justin on 100 somewhat scorching laps! Both teams were well assisted on their way by top level scoring and pouring team of Scott and Scott.

Thanks must go to the organisers of this world class event, the other competitors for giving us a good run for our money, and all those who came along to watch! Wait and see what’s in store for next years event, with this lot at the helm 👀

If it’s eastern Taranaki tomfoolery or sheep based shenanigans you’re after, you know you’ll always find it at The Shady Sheep! Stratford’s best baa by faa since 2013. Keep your eyes peeled for what’s going on right here very soon! Baa 🐏

Long weekends come and go, but it’s a Matariki of fact that The Shady Sheep is here to stay. And with top shelf events like the Tour de Whanga, is it any wonder?!

Earlier this weekend, 15 of our brave and highly skilled operatives took flight on a squadron of potent 50cc steeds and plotted a course due East. Their objective? To capture and hold the republic of Whangamomona. While the treacherous campaign was not without its casualties, no soldier was left behind and through careful use of cunning tactics and special apparatus, the mission was a rip roaring success! Job done, our wooly heroes handed the republic back to the local citizens and blazed a trail all the way back to New Zealand.

Reckon ewe have what it takes to make it through the winding turns and steep saddles of the Forgotten World Highway? And are ewe mad enough to take on the trip with only a couple of steaming hot hogget horsepower between your knees?! Save a sheep, ride a scooter! Join us next year, we’d love to shear it with ewe! It’s more fun than a new rousey with a mysterious case of the trouser itches….

The Shady Sheep, your home for top level shenanigans, proud to support the Tour de Whanga, and Stratfords best baa by faa for 10 great years in 2024!

It might be Daylight Savings time, but ewe’ll have to get up bloody early to beat that cunning flock from The Shady Sheep! Today was the 9th annual running of The Shady Sheep 1000 motor race, and if red hot excitement pushes your buttons, there was no better place to be!

A fleet of brave pilots slogged it out over 3 challenging heats around the torturous curves of the Strathmore Motorplex, putting on plenty of fast and close racing, and shearing more than a little paint! When the dust had cleared and points had been tallied, this years champion and holder of the coveted Wooley-T trophy was Aiden Krutz, in one mighty quick Honda! In second place, The Shady Sheep’s own little big dog Scott MacDonald, and rounding out the podium, none other than meanest of the mean Nathan Green! Take a look at your champions, don’t they look well chuffed after conquering the mountain?!

Raceday thanks must be given to those that we couldn’t do without: Chief Track steward Michael, Ace Race Control team Rachel and , and Monsieur Sandford on the dirty Webber!

Think ewe’ve got what it takes to run at the hottest Motorsport event in Eastern Taranaki? Reckon ewe’ve got the right stuff to take on the infamous Grass Bathurst? Well we’d love to see ewe next year for the momentous 10th running of The Shady Sheep 1000, the race that stops a district!

The Shady Sheep, Stratfords best baa by faa and proud supporter of the Eastern Taranakis oldest and most prestigious motorsport event, The Shady Sheep 1000!

Whether ewe identify as a burger king, a yass queen, or maybe ewe are just a big fan of Fat Bottom Girls, everyone agrees that the 7th annual Shady Sheep Tour de Whanga was a wool pulling, dag bagging good time!

This Kings Birthday Sunday, while ewe were sheltering from a bit of light drizzle, a feisty flock of mad lads and shady ladies took to the Forgotten World Highway and plotted a course to invade the republic of Whangamomona! The catch? They only had 50cc each to make the treacherous trip. After a successful crossing into the republic, and not before winning over a couple of the locals, they turned around and ripped all the way back across the border into New Zealand! Baaaarilliant!

Do ewe have what it takes to conquer the twists and turns of the Forgotten World Highway with nothing but a couple of red hot hogget horsepower between your legs? Do ewe have the stamina to fleece the saddles and straights on the smallest of small bikes and live to tell the tale?? Would ewe rather be doing cool s**t like this than sitting round at home getting fly-blown??! Well why not save a sheep and ride a scooter, and join us next year! We’d love to shear in the challenge with you 😉

It’s a proven fact that the further East you head in Taranaki, the more sheep you will find. It’s also statistically proven that the level of fun you have increases, the further east you go…. Coincidence? We think not!

The annual Shenanigans 500 enduro was on again today, and The Shady Sheep put forward a crack team of experts to take on this testing event. With a combination of speed, stamina, reliability, cunning, and more than a little luck (as well as an unmatched ability to take on refreshments), the team managed a well earned 3rd place! Well done Michael Coulton, Nick Gibb, Bryce Meads, Simon Coulton, Tim Beck and Scott Fraser for doing the hard yards on and off the track, and rounding out the podium in this tough event. Congrats must go to the 06 Club for taking the honours, and to the organisers for a day that had it all!

If its shenanigans ewe are looking for, whether sheep based or otherwise, ewe can’t go past The Shady Sheep! Stratfords best baa by faa, and proudly getting amongst for 10 great years in 2023!

We hope ewe had a Good Friday wherever ewe were in this fine country today, but ewe would have to be an absolute egg to not head East for all the hot-cross action today at the 8th annual running of The Shady Sheep 1000 motor race!

Struth! There was action a plenty on the mountain as a flock of brave pilots took on the treacherous Strathmore Motorplex circuit once again, in the hunt to take home the prestigious Wooley-T trophy! This year really had it all; first time competitors, hardened old campaigners, on track battles, off track banter, jeez Louise one unlucky soul even managed to upend himself before the day was half done!

Going into the difficult 20 lap final there was a 3-way tie on points to keep things interesting, but when the smoke had literally cleared it was none other than rapid red Honda pilot Reece Hann who got to take home the silverware for 2023! Coming in a high RPM second place, the meanest of the mean Nathan Green, and rounding out the podium once again, Shady Sheep low flyer Scott Fraser! Don’t they look bloody chuffed with the result!

Special thanks must of course go to our ace race team of Rachel Weren and Hayden Mattock, official events media officers Scott Weren and Steph Loveridge, chief track steward Michael Coulton, master griller Harry Warner, and the legions of supporters that made the trek out for a top shelf day of smoking hot on track action! Whoa back! Ewe can see why it’s the race that stops a district!

The Shady Sheep, proudly supporting eastern Taranaki’s oldest and most prestigious motorsport event, and celebrating sticking it to the man for 10 mighty years in 2023!

That’s right ewe fine flock of rollers, The Rock 2000 countdown for 2022 is well underway, and if it’s fun, frivolity and sheep based sharns ewe’re after, we’ve got ewe sorted for the final day of the most baa-eautiful rock countdown in the land!

From 1pm on Friday September 30, hoof it out to The Shady Sheep Country Club to find out who will take the top step of the rostrum in this years countdown. Will it be Maaster of Puppets once again? Ramstein? Or what about “Ewe’re The Voice” by John Farm’em? How about “Lambslide” by Stevie Nicks? Fark knows, but we are bloody certain that it won’t be Lady Baabaa or Ed Shear’em!

We’ll have the barbie whacked up to 100 through the arvo, so go and pick up some prime snags, a box of 12 mates or more, and head on out for high class tunes and more wooly yarns than a Bain Family reunion!!
