Practice Owners:
What if I told you there was a way to grow your practice, faster, and avoid all the costly mistakes of having a business for the first time?

Do you even think about your practice as a business? Yes, it is.

Does having the 2 words ‘practice’ and ‘business’ in the same sentence make you feel a bit icky?! It did to me too at the start - “making money from people in pain? Yikes, that’s not me…”

I know what it’s like. BUT, although you might be working for the love of your allied health profession, your staff / contractors and employees aren’t. Or at least they won’t for long.

Unfortunately your landlord isn’t going to let you stop paying your lease, nor is your internet provider or power company going to let you stop paying their bills any time soon.

Your practice needs to at least cover its costs, and better yet, be heading on the trajectory to make you a profit. It needs to operate as a business. Because if it doesn’t, sooner or later you’ll have to close your doors, and then you’ll be treating no-one.

Practitioners: Imagine what it would be like to be able to pick up the phone and chat to a more experienced practitioner about the difficult patient you just had?

Or brainstorm with a trusted person about how to best manage your patient that day?

Did your practice principal promise to mentor you when you first started with the practice? Unfortunately, more often than not these well meaning promises fall by the wayside due to lack of time or energy.

I would have loved a mentor who really wanted to help and support me in my first years of practice. In fact, in my last 15 years, I’ve only met one boss who actually made time to chat with me, and even then it tended to be sporadic as we crossed paths, or when I really, really needed help.

Do you find it easy or difficult to make conversation with patients?

I remember when I first started out, I wondered how I was going to talk to people who were so different to from me. Especially when I moved overseas to practice - quite literally from central London to a small northland town in New Zealand!

Now I like to think I’ve got between 30 - 45 minutes of conversation capability with just about anybody, including those who speak a different language to me! (I actually think building rapport and therefore trust with those people is especially important).

There are some super easy ways to build rapport with people.

This is my vision! To achieve this, let’s start with the practitioner and practice owner - to support, help them grow and flourish in all things healthcare related!

Hi All. I'm Holly - experienced business owner and hands-on practitioner, and I'm making it my purpose to help you have the practice life you've been dreaming about. Be it confidence as a new practitioner, or someone who's returning after having time off for family reasons, I have been helping practitioners thrive for more than a decade.

Or perhaps you've just started, or been working for a while on your very own practice (congratulations!) I have been through everything you're experiencing and more - trust me! The life of a owning and operating a practice as a business is NOT for the faint hearted, am I right??!
