"I'll think about selling when I'm ready."
It's something I hear from business owners all the time.
And it makes sense.
When you're busy running a business, selling often feels like something you'll deal with "one day."
But here's the reality:
The best exits are usually planned years beforehand.
Not because you're ready to leave.
Because giving yourself time creates options.
Time to strengthen your systems.
Time to develop your team.
Time to reduce reliance on yourself.
Time to improve the areas that buyers value most.
The interesting part is that these changes don't just make a business more attractive to a future buyer.
They often make it a better business to own today.
Planning ahead doesn't mean you're committed to selling.
It simply means you're giving yourself more choices when the time comes.
And in my experience, having options is one of the greatest advantages a business owner can have.
