East Sepik - A tragic road accident in East Sepik Province has left a family and community in mourning after a student from Boim village in West Yangoru was struck by a public motor vehicle (PMV) on Monday, May 6.

The student, who was attending Yangoru Secondary School, was reportedly hit by a route 3-7 15-seater PMV bus identified as โ€œJB Wamaโ€, operating out of Kwarabri village in East Yangoru. The incident occurred at Yehiuru Feelingโ€™s Corner, near the junction leading to the Kwahue A.O.G. church, a known hotspot for vehicle and pedestrian activity.

Eyewitnesses say the student was walking along the roadside when the vehicle came from behind and struck them. The full circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear and are currently under investigation by local police.

Authorities in Yangoru are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The unfortunate accident has once again brought to light growing concerns over road safety and driver behavior in rural parts of the province, with calls mounting for improved signage, speed regulation, and driver awareness in populated areas.

Community leaders have expressed their sorrow and have called for collective efforts to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially released.

In towns and cities we all depend heavily on money ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿค‘. Nowadays money ๐Ÿ’ฐ is our garden when residing in urban areas.
Appreciate little they give you when meeting freinds or families along your way, don't expect more from your immediate family members or friends.
Nowadays it's very hard to live in urban areas so please don't search for milk and honey to towns and cities.

A tragic accident occurred today at 6-Mile when a power line fell and fatally struck a young mother in front of her husband and two-year-old child.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman was walking along the roadside when the live power line suddenly snapped and fell, striking her directly. Prime Minister Marape Pays Tribute to Late Sir Julius Chan and Unveils Plans for a K100 Note in His Honour

Port Moresby, Monday, 28 April 2025 โ€“
Prime Minister Hon. James Marape today announced that Papua New Guinea will honour the late Sir Julius Chan, one of the nationโ€™s founding leaders, with the issuance of a new K100 banknote bearing his image โ€” a historic tribute to a man regarded as the chief architect of PNGโ€™s financial system.

Speaking during a commemorative event in Port Moresby marking the 50th anniversary of the Kina and Toea, Prime Minister Marape paid special respect to Sir Julius Chan, who was recently laid to rest in his beloved Tanga Island in New Ireland Province.

โ€œSir Julius Chan was a towering figure in our countryโ€™s history. He built the financial foundations that still support our economy today,โ€ said Prime Minister Marape.
โ€œOn behalf of the nation, I take this time to pay him a special tribute. Cabinet has already approved the proposal to issue a K100 note bearing his image, to be launched before our Independence Day celebrations on September 16.โ€

Prime Minister Marape acknowledged Sir Juliusโ€™ children, Vanessa, Mark and Toea and thanked them for sharing their father with the nation. He noted that Sir Julius had earlier declined the idea of a currency bearing his image while he was alive, requesting that it be considered only after his passing.
