Mela Geohazards Consultants is a 100% nationally owned company (IPA registration in final progress). The company is currently operating in and around East New Britain Province. We know about tectonics, within East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea and around the South West Pacific Region. Our Geohazards information and material was developed over the last two decades, with data extend

ing back to the 1900s. We specialise in:
-ALL Major Geohazards events; Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Volcanoes.
- Secondary Geohazard events; floods, landslides, mudslides, submarine slides, coastal erosion , daming of riverways and floodin.
-Disaster Education and awareness courses (in schools, companies, Government agencies and private sectors in preparation for major events)
- assisting Provincial Government Disaster Offices with Geohazard standard operating procedures and aftermath assessments of individual major events
- assisting Undergraduate and Post graduate Research projects
-advising Engineers in Civil Works pre-assesment for bridges, roads, wharves and building sites

Lawrence Anton (BSc UPNG), MSc (MONASH UNIVERSITY, MELBOURNE)

Work Experience:
Lawrence Anton was a seismologist at the Port Moresby Geophysical Observatory, National Capital District for 22 years. Over the years Lawrence had established good working relationships with the PNG National Disaster Centre, Rabaul Volcano Observatory, Office of Climate Change and Development (Adaptation Technical Working Group), and the National Weather Service, the Geophysical Observatory and over time had become acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of these individual Government Agencies. Lawrence had also developed and established relationships with both technical agencies and development partners within PNG and abroad. Lawrence graduated 2010 from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia with a Master of Science Degree. His university dissertation was on PNG Earthquake Hazard, which includes an overview of the regional geology and geophysics. Over his time at Port Moresby Geophysical Observatory Lawrence had researched tectonics, earthquakes, and tsunamis in the PNG region.
