K60 BILLION PAPUA LNG PROJECT: WILL PNG FINALLY GET THE GREEN LIGHT? πβ³
Papua New Guinea has been waiting years for one of its biggest resource projects to take off.
The US$14.5 billion Papua LNG project was supposed to reach its Final Investment Decision in early 2026.
It didn't happen.
Now there's a new deadline.
15 DECEMBER 2026.
That's just two months away.
If approved, Papua LNG could bring billions in investment, construction jobs, business opportunities and future export revenue.
But it's not the only major project PNG is waiting on.
Wafi-Golpu, worth US$5.4 billion, appears to have stalled. P'nyang Gas is expected to follow Papua LNG, while other projects continue moving at their own pace.
And here's an interesting detail.
Around K80 million has reportedly already been spent on the Papua LNG Development Forum, with a K112 million approved spending ceiling.
That's a lot of money spent on preparing for a project that has yet to receive its final investment approval.
Meanwhile, PNG is also facing international financial greylisting, which could make financing major projects more complicated and expensive.
PNG has the gas. PNG has the gold. PNG has the copper.
What PNG needs now is investment decisions that turn these resources into jobs, business opportunities and real benefits for its people.
The countdown to 15 December has begun.
Will Papua LNG finally move forward in 2026, or are we heading into another year of waiting?
