: FOUR MORE STUDENTS GRADUATES IN US THROUGH YER EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Tuesday June 02, 2026
The Yer Education Foundation Inc. (YEF) has congratulated four Papua New Guinean students who graduated in the United States, describing their achievements as a testament to resilience, faith, and hard work.
In a statement issued by Board Chair Jackson Yer, the Foundation recognized the accomplishments of David Wasun, who graduated in Radiation Therapy; Dickson P**i, who graduated in Health Management; and Lilian Simon and Joyce Pindipia, who both graduated in Health Management and Nursing.
Mr. Yer said the graduates had overcome numerous challenges throughout their academic journey, including financial pressures, distance from home, doubt, and exhaustion.
"The path you have walked was never easy. There were moments when the weight of distance, finances, doubt, and exhaustion threatened to stop you. But today, we celebrate not just your degrees but your defiance of every obstacle placed before you," the statement said.
The Foundation also acknowledged the support of parents, families, sponsors, and partners who contributed to the students' success.
Special recognition was given to major supporters, including MRDC, Member for Mendi-Munihu Hon. Raphael Tunpi, MMDDA CEO Philip Koka, PRK Chairman John Kapi Natto, Pora and Tana of Isee Investment, Mt. Lemina Lodge Managing Director Bartholomew Yakop, Kemela Construction Managing Director Firman Joseph, ORINK PNG Limited Managing Director Job Joe, Wellinton Albert, and Chief Customs Commissioner David Towe and his wife.
According to YEF, support from sponsors has enabled the Foundation to assist 28 Papua New Guinean students currently studying in the United States. The Foundation noted that the graduation of the four students marks an important milestone and expressed confidence that more students will graduate in the years ahead.
The graduates were praised for representing Papua New Guinea with dignity and excellence and were described as future contributors to the nation's development.
YEF also highlighted that all four graduates worked part-time on campus throughout their studies to support themselves financially.
The Foundation acknowledged the sacrifices made by members of the YEF Board, including Sharon Agima, Job Joe, Michael Esop, John Lakea, Abednego Pakuma, Nelson Amos, Robert Simon, and the National Operations Office.
Particular tribute was paid to National Operations CEO Pake Kera and Director Joshua Owil, who, according to the Foundation, gave up employment opportunities to help provide educational opportunities for students.
The four graduates follow former YEF student Israel Solu, who graduated in 2023 with a degree in Criminal Justice and now serves as a Correctional Officer at the Cumberland County Penitentiary.
YEF currently accommodates 28 Papua New Guinean students enrolled in various academic programs in the United States. The Foundation stated that all students reside at the YEF compound, where they receive mentorship, care, and oversight.
However, the Foundation noted that its accommodation facilities have reached maximum capacity and is seeking support to expand its operations into other U.S. states.
In closing, Mr. Yer encouraged the graduates to move forward with pride, integrity, and purpose while continuing to make meaningful contributions to Papua New Guinea.
"Make PNG proud. Make your families proud. And never forget where your journey began—with faith, with sacrifice, and with the Yer Education Foundation standing behind you," the statement said.
