My First Upwork Project
(after years of not even trying)
I’ll be honest, Upwork didn’t really work for me when I first joined.
I applied to a few jobs, got no traction, and eventually stopped.
In those early years, I also explored different paths. I first tried to specialize in graphic design, but the deeper I went, the more I realized that high-level design often demands formal training and years of experience to compete — especially on platforms like Upwork where competition is tough.
Later, I shifted into virtual assistance, which actually helped me land my first legitimate full-time job outside of Upwork. It worked for a time, but I always felt like there was something missing. I wanted to give more — to provide real value to clients, something more impactful than just fulfilling tasks.
That desire to offer more eventually led me, through both circumstance and determination, to the world of operations and automation. This is where I found my footing and eventually specialized as a Certified ClickUp Admin & Expert and a Verified ClickUp Power User.
Recently, after couple of years in, I gave Upwork another try. This time with clarity and specialization.
I applied to 3 jobs, closed my laptop, and the next day, a client replied.
He wasn’t a technical person, but he knew what he wanted. He communicated clearly, stayed focused on the goal, and trusted me to handle the system-building.
We pieced together a ClickUp workspace tailored to his business - a system designed to support both daily operations and future growth.
Looking back, this experience was more than just closing a project — it marked the moment I knew I had finally found the kind of work I wanted to keep doing. Helping businesses structure and scale their operations felt like the right fit, and I’m glad I took the leap!
