Thereโ€™s a season of trying.

Sending things out. Knocking on doors. Waiting.

And hearing... not much back. ๐Ÿ˜…

Then, somehow, doors I wasnโ€™t even knocking on started opening.

People reaching out to me. Conversations I didnโ€™t initiate. Opportunities I wasnโ€™t even looking for.

And it made me think of this:

โ€œIn their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.โ€๏ฟฝโ€” Proverbs 16:9

I was so busy trying to figure out which doors to knock on.

Meanwhile, God was quietly working on doors I didnโ€™t even know existed. ๐Ÿ’š

I don't know yet where any of these doors will lead. And maybe that's the lesson for me this week.

Do your part. Make your plans. Knock on the doors.

But don't hold on so tightly to how you think things should happen.

Sometimes the answer comes from a completely different direction.

And sometimes, the door that opens isn't even the one you were standing in front of.

Twenty years ago, five of us found ourselves working on our companyโ€™s very first SAP implementation.

Two girls. Three guys.

Long days. Tight deadlines. Plenty of pressure.

So every Thursday night, weโ€™d cross the street to Pelangi for karaoke. ๐Ÿ˜‚

We even called ourselves the Thursday Group. (Very creative naming skills, I know. Thatโ€™s Entertainment ๐Ÿ˜†)

Twenty years laterโ€ฆ

The guys are still with the company. Us girls have long moved on.

We donโ€™t see each other often.

We donโ€™t even chat regularly.

But we make it a point to get together at least once a year.

And somehow, the moment weโ€™re all in the same room, itโ€™s like no time has passed.

Maybe thatโ€™s what real friendship is.

Itโ€™s knowing youโ€™ve seen each other at your most stressed, your most sleep-deprivedโ€ฆ and yesโ€ฆ your most questionable karaoke performances. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŽค

Iโ€™m grateful that what started as a project became a friendship that outlived our corporate careers.

Looking back, I realize I wasnโ€™t just building systems.

๐ˆ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐›๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ๐ฌ.

Thatโ€™s something I still enjoy doing today.

Some people become colleagues.

Some become lifelong friends.

Some weeks donโ€™t go according to plan.

Last week, ours happened to include a few extra days in the hospital. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thankfully, Mama was her usual self the whole time. No fever, no symptomsโ€”just doctors keeping a close eye on one lab result. Weโ€™re grateful sheโ€™s home now, doing much better, and taking it one dialysis session at a time.

This week reminded me that gratitude isnโ€™t only for the big miracles.

Sometimes itโ€™s simply waking up to an ordinary Sunday, sharing a meal together, hearing laughter again, and thanking God for carrying us through another week.

Pizza 4P's (Ben Thanh) โ€” the pizza's the star, but the crab pasta and pesto deserve their own hype.

L'Usine (Le Thanh Ton) โ€” my new go-to branch, but the croque monsieur is exactly how I remember it.

The thing I never planned for became part of my routine.

Twice a week, my schedule revolves around dialysis โ€” my momโ€™s.

Not because I chose it.

Not because it was part of some carefully crafted retirement plan.

It simply became one of the things love asks of me.

Funny how life works.

The chapters we never planned for often become the ones that teach us the most.

Patience.

Perspective.

Presence.

My 3-year-old brain: crying + locked room = candies. So I asked to be locked up again. ๐Ÿ˜‚
