Hinatulang guilty ng Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 21 ang dating Bureau of Customs broker na si Mark Taguba kaugnay sa naipuslit na P6.2-bilyong halaga ng shabu sa bansa mula sa China noong 2017.

Kabilang sa mga hinatulang guilty sa paglabag sa Customs Modernization and Tariff Act sina Eirene Tatad na consignee ng shipment, warehouseman na si Fidel Dee, at businessman na si D**g Yi Shen.

Napatunayang guilty ang mga akusado sa misdeclaration, transportation at facilitation ng smuggled goods.

Pinagbabayad sila ng tig-P50 milyon na multa sa bawat bilang na aabot sa P150 milyon. Hinatulan din sila ng korte ng reclusion perpetua o 40 taong pagkakakulong.

Nagsabwatan umano ang tatlo para maipuslit ang 600 kilong shabu sa bansa, ayon kay Senior Asst. Prosecutor Charlie Guhit.

End-May 2022 GIR Level Settles at US$103.53 Billion

The country’s gross international reserves (GIR) level, based on preliminary data, settled at US$103.53 billion as of end-May 2022 from the end-April 2022 GIR level of US$105.4 billion.

The month-on-month decrease in the GIR level reflected mainly the National Government’s (NG) foreign currency withdrawals from its deposits with the BSP to settle its foreign currency debt obligations and pay for its various expenditures. Further, the downward adjustment in the value of the BSP’s gold holdings due to the decrease in the price of gold in the international market contributed to the decline in the GIR.

"ONE OF THE BEST SECRETARIES"

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea considered Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade as ‘one of the best Secretaries’ of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

According to Secretary Medialdea, Secretary Tugade's works, efforts, and initiatives at the DOTr since the start of the Duterte administration in 2016 are commendable and have benefitted the country.

“Secretary Art is one of the best government officials I’ve seen. Nakita n’yo naman ngayon ang resulta ng kanyang mga ginagawa, hanggang Coast Guard abot," Secretary Medialdea said during the donning and oath-taking of newly-appointed and promoted members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Auxiliary Executive Squadron on 02 June 2022.

"Naging DOTr Secretary s'ya. Magaling na DOTr Secretary. At tuwing nakikita s'ya ng Pangulo, wala nang sinasabi ang Pangulo kundi purihin s'ya," the Palace official added.

Secretary Medialdea likewise commended the men and women of Coast Guard, including the Auxiliarists, for their dedication and commitment in serving the public.

"The PCG is an organization that has gone above and beyond its call of duty in ensuring the security of the country's maritime borders," Secretary Medialdea remarked.

Secretary Tugade thanked Secretary Medialdea for the recognition. "Nagpapasalamat ako kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa tiwala n'ya sa akin, gayundin sa suporta ng gobyerno, kasama si Secretary Medialdea, sa mga proyekto ng DOTr. Ang mga nagawa natin ay bahagi ng legasiya ng Duterte administration," he said.

​The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has ordered BSP-Supervised Financial Institutions (BSFIs) to remove all electronic sabong (e-Sabong) operators from the list of merchants in their respective online applications.

The BSP issued the order through Memorandum 2022-026 to all BSFIs following President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to suspend all e-Sabong operations in the country effective 03 May 2022.

The BSP also directed BSFIs to inform their clients who still have remaining funds in their e-Sabong accounts to transfer the funds back to their e-wallets within 30 days from the issuance of the memorandum.

After said 30 days, BSFIs are directed to disable the link between e-Sabong accounts and e-money wallets, including e-Sabong merchant operator accounts.

The memorandum also emphasized that BSFIs shall strictly observe customer due diligence, continuously monitor accounts and transactions, report suspicious transactions, and ensure that appropriate control measures are in place to restrict access of minors, government employees, and other prohibited players to online gambling facilities.​
