Summer has come, and with it comes rising power demand and surging electricity bills.

Residents across the Philippines, like many countries, have been encouraged to work from home and enforce a self-quarantine inside their homes and apartments. As community quarantine continues to be strongly enforced, more time will be spent at home, which means more electricity usage.

And while evidences have shown drastic reduction of carbon footprint, other pollutions may rise due to increased use of basic domestic resources such as water and electricity.

Consumers’ participation in saving energy will be helpful to prevent such condition and power outages during summer. Here are some tips from the Department of Energy (DOE) to conserve electricity and also save some cash from high electricity bills:

1. Regularly maintain air-conditioners.
2. Turn off the lights when not needed.
3. Use LED lights.
4. Unplug unused electric appliances.
5. Clean your fridge and avoid opening it longer than necessary.
6. Air dry laundry.
