Meet the Tacunan Green Dwarf Coconut (TACD)—a Philippine dwarf coconut variety associated with Tacunan, Davao City and recognized by the Philippine Coconut Authority for its promising characteristics.
🥥 EARLY-BEARING
Under highly suitable conditions, PCA reports that the first bunches may appear in less than two years. Actual bearing still depends on location, soil, climate, planting material, and proper farm management.
🌴 DWARF & EASIER TO HARVEST
Its shorter growth habit means early fruit bunches can be positioned lower than those of tall coconut varieties, making harvesting more manageable.
💨 ROBUST PALM
PCA has observed Tacunan palms enduring strong winds in cyclone-prone areas, associated with their thick stems and well-anchored roots. Diri ini nangangahulogan nga typhoon-proof, but it is certainly an interesting characteristic for farmers.
🥥 GOOD NUT & MEAT PRODUCTION
PCA reports an average of around 94 nuts per palm per year, with a reported yield potential of up to 204 nuts under suitable conditions.
🥤 EXCELLENT FOR BUKO
Tacunan Green Dwarf is recognized as suitable for tender-coconut production, with PCA reporting an average of about 478 mL of coconut water per nut in its characterization.
🥥 ALSO GOOD FOR COPRA & COCONUT MEAT
Its relatively thick meat makes it useful not only for buko but also for other coconut products.
🌱One interesting local name is “Bilaka” or “Linkuranay,” referring to its short, early-bearing character—so short that early nuts may be harvested while bending or sitting. 🌴
