Wondering what is a freelance job? How about freelancers?

A freelance job is one where a person works as an independent company rather than be employed by someone else.

While freelancers do take on contract work for companies and organizations, they are ultimately “self-employed”. Freelancers are hired on a part-time or short-term basis, but they do not receive the same compensation as full-time employees or have the same level of commitment to any particular company. Freelancing has the option as well to provide a full-time service, depending on the client’s needs and the freelancers’ preference. In this case, clients provide a sort of “test period” for a freelancer before they are hired full time.

Freelancers accept payment in return for providing some sort of service. Example of freelancing jobs:

- I hired a freelancer to do some data entry jobs, 200 pages for 10 hours at a $5/hour rate.

- A freelancer does some admin tasks for me 10 hours a week and pays her $100 weekly.

- I offered a 5-minute video editing task which should be completed on or before 2 days after the start-up date. Once I approve the output, I’ll pay him $150 on that project.
