Do you know that a building may sway even if there is no lateral load? Gravity loads alone can cause building sway especially if there is lot vibration. This phenomenon is called the P-Delta effect. The lateral displacement will cause secondary moments which will further test the building's stability. So next time you design a structure be sure to consider P-Delta effects. You can not do this type of analysis with an Excel program, so beware of using Excel. It may yield satisfactoey strength check but you never know whether it will pass service and ductility checks
