I used to think tourism was mainly the responsibility of resorts, tour operators, and government offices.

But the more I work with tourism communities, the more I realize something important:

Tourism is everyone’s responsibility.

A beautiful destination is not created by marketing alone.
It is shaped every day by the people who live there.

It is the tricycle driver who welcomes visitors with a smile.
It is the vendor who keeps the beach clean.
It is the tour guide who shares stories about the place with pride.
It is the resort owner who treats guests like family.

Even small actions matter.

When locals care about their community, visitors feel it.
And when visitors feel it, they come back.

In places like Puerto Galera, tourism is more than an industry.
It is a shared opportunity to uplift the entire community.

That’s why I believe we must all take part—
not just in welcoming visitors,
but in protecting, promoting, and improving the place we call home.

Because when tourism succeeds,
the whole community moves forward together.

It’s about telling the story of your people.

I had the privilege of facilitating a training program for the Iraya Mangyan tour guides in communication skills so they can confidently share their culture, traditions, and stories with visitors.

When local communities become storytellers, tourism becomes meaningful. 🌿
