Canada Updates!!!

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a pathway towards permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates from a Canadian institution who want to work and live in one of Canada's Atlantic provinces such as New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Foundland and Labrador.
This program helps designated employers hire qualified individuals for jobs they haven’t been able to fill locally with permanent residents and Canadian citizens living in the province. Only a designated employer can initiate an application to the AIP.

AIP is now beginning to accept new applications from designated New Brunswick employers to endorse a position offered to a foreign national.

At this time, the province WILL NOT be considering designation and endorsement applications for occupations that fall under the following NOCs:
• Accounting technicians and bookkeepers (NOC 12200)
• Administrative assistants (NOC 13110)
• Shippers and receivers (NOC 14400)
• Restaurant and food service managers (NOC 60030)
• Food service supervisors (NOC 62020)
• Cooks (NOC 63200)
• Bakers (NOC 63202)
• Bartenders (NOC 64301)
• Other customer representatives (NOC 64409)
• Process control and machine operators – food and beverage processing (NOC 94140)
• Fish and seafood plant workers (NOC 94142)

Check if your occupation is still eligible in New Brunswick province for Atlantic Immigration Program.

News Release

October 1, 2024—Ottawa— The federal government is committed to supporting critical sectors in regional economies while providing skilled workers with clear pathways to permanent residence.

This temporary measure will give new work permits to up to 215 temporary workers identified and supported by the Government of Yukon to continue working while they process their permanent residence applications under the Yukon Nominee Program.

Eligible individuals have to demonstrate that they meet the criteria and are expected to transition to permanent residence in 2025 and 2026. These skilled workers are filling key job vacancies in Yukon and are actively contributing to Canada’s economy and social diversity.

News Release

September 18, 2024 – Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced additional measures to manage the volume of temporary resident arrivals, uphold the integrity of our immigration system and protect vulnerable people. IRCC are:

• announcing a further reduction in the intake cap on international student study permits for 2025 based on a 10% reduction from the 2024 target of 485,000 new study permits issued, and then stabilizing the intake cap for 2026 such that the number of study permits issued remains the same as 2025

• For 2025, this means reducing study permits issued to 437,000

• updating the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program this fall to better align with immigration goals and labour market needs

• limiting work permit eligibility, later this year, to spouses of master’s degree students to only those whose program is at least 16 months in duration

• limiting work permit eligibility later this year to spouses of foreign workers in management or professional occupations or in sectors with labour shortages—under Canada’s work permit programs (TFWP and IMP).

Sharing latest Canada Immigration News Update:

Canada ends temporary public policy allowing visitors to apply for work permits from within the country.

Ottawa, August 28, 2024— Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has ended a temporary public policy that allowed visitors to apply for a work permit from within Canada, effective immediately.

IRCC introduced the policy in August 2020 to help visitors who were unable to leave the country due to COVID-19 pandemic–related travel restrictions. Under the policy, visitors in Canada could apply for a work permit without having to leave the country. In addition, foreign nationals who had held a work permit in the previous 12 months but who changed their status in Canada to “visitor” could apply to work legally in Canada while waiting for a decision on their new work permit application.

While the temporary policy was set to expire on February 28, 2025, IRCC is ending the policy as part of our overall efforts to recalibrate the number of temporary residents in Canada and preserve the integrity of the immigration system. IRCC is also aware that some bad actors were using the policy to mislead foreign nationals into working in Canada without authorization.

IRCC will continue to process applications submitted before August 28, 2024 under the policy.
