Pak–China Border Trade Center Tashkurgan: New Opportunities for GB Youth
By AhmadUllah Baig
Years of effort by the Hunza Chamber of Commerce have finally paid off. At the Pak–China Border Trade Center in Tashkurgan, a growing number of young people from Gilgit-Baltistan are now earning a steady income. The local administration in Tashkurgan has allocated around 200 to 250 containers to GB traders, allowing them to sell Pakistani products directly in the border trade zone. Many of these young entrepreneurs now make significant monthly earnings, proving how impactful cross-border trade can be for the region.
Despite this progress, participation from Hunza itself remains surprisingly low, with less than one percent of traders coming from the district. The Chamber of Commerce has repeatedly encouraged Hunza’s youth to explore business opportunities instead of limiting themselves to seasonal sports or offering criticism without firsthand experience. The success stories of GB traders already working in Tashkurgan are clear proof of the potential available.
Senior members of the Hunza Chamber of Commerce are currently in the trade zone, guiding new entrants and helping them understand procedures and regulations. Young people interested in trade are encouraged to visit, learn from their peers and start their own ventures while respecting Chinese laws and local guidelines.
