Pakistan’s federal government has approved the printing of newly redesigned currency notes after receiving formal clearance from the federal cabinet. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marking a significant step toward modernizing the country’s currency system.
The updated designs will be introduced for Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000, and Rs5,000 banknotes and have been developed in line with international standards. Advanced security threads and enhanced anti-counterfeit features have been incorporated, with global experts contributing to the design process. The new artwork reflects Pakistan’s regional diversity, geographical landscapes, and historical heritage, while also highlighting important national themes such as women’s contribution to development and climate change awareness. A special committee has been approved to review the designs before final issuance.
