Over the past three weeks, our incredible participants explored their connection with nature through engaging workshops, meaningful conversations with decision-makers, collaborative volunteer work, and a memorable weekend immersed in the beauty of Vierhouten’s Natura2000 area. 🌱✨

From reconnecting with nature on hikes to warming up by the campfire, every moment brought us closer to understanding our impact on the environment.

June 7th was the final event of already the fifth edition of Issue Killers ✅

All participants gave presentations about their campaigns and their launch with the results. 🚀

For example, the Nachtwachters campaign was featured in the newspaper!

Iedere Seconde Geld has already done a lot, but much more is to come!

During these presentations, participants reflected on what they learned and will take with them, but also how the campaigns can remain sustainable to move forward.

Of course, we ended this beautiful summer day on the terrace of KIT with a drink to go into the weekend🍻.

🗞 Exciting news! TheRockGroup coordinated the organization of the first-ever EU-Kenya Business Forum! Bringing together EU member states and Kenyan organizations for a two-day event.

With a focus on key topics like circular economy, agriculture, and digitalization, our forum explored the immense potential for trade and investment between the EU and Kenya, exceeding €500M annually.

We had over 850 attendees onsite and 250 online, ranging from big corporations to local NGOs and government bodies.

Our goal was simple: to showcase Kenya as a prime business destination and facilitate meaningful connections across sectors.

Through engaging sessions, we’re proud to have contributed to fostering economic growth and sustainable development in Kenya.

Meet Pieter 👋🏼

Pieter studied Dutch Law at the University of Groningen and worked for 35 years in international financial services 🏦, including structured finance and project financing.

His growing concern about climate change and biodiversity loss 🦋 led him to decide to leverage his professional experience at TheRockGroup.

Pieter’s passion is nature; he enjoys hiking 🥾 and cycling frequently in the mountains and volunteers for meadow bird conservation efforts.

🚨 Duurzaamheid gaat veel te langzaam. Zou dat soms komen doordat we onszelf buiten en boven de natuur hebben geplaatst? In het programma Natuur aan het Stuur gaan we ontdekken waar onze huidige relatie met de natuur vandaan komt, wat de consequenties zijn, en hoe we dit kunnen veranderen.

Als je tussen de 18 en 30 jaar oud bent en nieuwsgierig bent naar jouw relatie met de natuur, dan is “Natuur aan het Stuur” iets voor jou! Dit parttime programma van 3 weken biedt een unieke kans om samen met andere jongeren de relatie tussen mens en natuur te verkennen.

Gedurende het programma neem je deel aan boeiende discussies, trainingen en verrijkende ervaringen in de natuur. Het is belangrijk om te erkennen dat de staat van de natuur directe invloed heeft op onze samenleving, ons welzijn en uiteindelijk onze welvaart.

In “Natuur aan het Stuur” onderzoek je samen met besluitvormers binnen organisaties hoe zij de stem van de natuur kunnen laten doorklinken in hun beslissingen. Samen met leeftijdsgenoten ga je op zoek naar manieren om de relatie tussen mens en natuur nieuw leven in te blazen.

Dit programma draait om respect voor de natuur en het begrijpen van de wederzijdse impact tussen mens en natuur.

These standards mark a significant milestone, empowering organizations worldwide to comprehensively disclose their impacts on biodiversity and sustainable mining practices.

📗 We are happy to announce that TheRockGroup has co-written the UNESCO report ‘The African Fashion sector’

📝This report identifies the main trends and challenges of fashion and textile in Africa’s region to provide evidence-based policy recommendations.

A few things our fashion sustainability experts Karin Boomsma and Esther Mangiza have written down:

🪨The production of raw materials represents 15% of the product’s contribution to global warming climate change, 30% of its contribution to the degradation of ecosystems, 18% of its impact on resources, and 31% of its water consumption.

In a few years, clothing production has exploded and is one of the most impacted industries by globalization. Fashion has moved from fast to ‘super-fast’ fashion (average of 7 wears per item).

🟢The only way forward is green, eco, sustainable, ethical and circular.

Sustainability starts from how and what we source. If a cotton is not organically grown for instance, its production will put pressure on soil, water sources, biodiversity etc.

Editie 1: 8 t/m 26 juli 2024
Editie 2: 23 september t/m 11 oktober 2024
Editie 3: 7 t/m 25 juli 2025
Editie 4: 15 september t/m 3 oktober 2025

🐌Het eerste weekend van elke editie zal bestaan uit een weekend in de natuur. De locatie van het weekend verschilt per editie. De bekendmaking van deze locaties zal spoedig plaatsvinden!

Hoeveel tijd ben ik eraan kwijt?

Antwoord:
🕘Voor het programma hebben we goed nagedacht over hoeveel tijd je in elke fase van Natuur aan het Stuur besteedt.

Hier is onze inschatting:
Fase 1: Welkomstdag en 4 workshops (2.5 dagen)
Fase 2: Lang weekend in de natuur (3 dagen)
Fase 3: Vrijwilligerswerk en wandeling met bedrijfsbeslisser (1.5 dag)
Fase 4: Afsluitend evenement en reflectie (1.5 dag)
