Day-2
Many of my industry mates have asked me about connections between Kotter's Model, ADKAR Framework, Situational Leadership scenarios, McKinsey’s 7S Model & Lewin’s Change Model specially when we talk about change management.
You may read below what I did with Corporate HODs to train them or for giving them a thought process on change management, After learning they presented their roadmaps!
1) Kotter’s 8 Step Change Model , Driving Structured Transformation
A step-by-step framework that helps organizations implement change successfully.
Steps include creating urgency, forming a guiding coalition, developing a vision, communicating the vision, removing obstacles, creating short-term wins, sustaining acceleration, and anchoring change in the culture.
2) ADKAR Framework, Ensuring Individual & Organizational Change Success
Focuses on individual change to drive organizational transformation.
Stands for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement, guiding employees through change.
Connection: Complements Kotter’s Model by focusing on personal adoption at each stage and supports Lewin’s Change Model by ensuring reinforcement after implementation.
3) Situational Leadership, Adapting Leadership Styles to Different Scenarios
Leaders adjust their approach based on their team's competency and commitment levels.
Uses four styles: Directing, Coaching, Supporting, and Delegating.
Connection: Plays a key role in Kotter’s Model, as leaders must adapt at different steps, and in ADKAR, where leadership styles influence employees’ ability to embrace change.
5) McKinsey’s 7S Model, Strategy, Structure, Systems, Shared Values, Skills, Style, and Staff, are aligned for successful change.
Connection: Supports Kotter’s Model by ensuring structural readiness for change and ADKAR by identifying gaps in individual capabilities.
5) Lewin’s Change Model, Unfreezing Old Ways, Making Changes, and Reinforcing Them
A simple three-stage process: Unfreeze (prepare for change), Change (implement new behaviors), and Refreeze (sustain the new way).
How They Work Together in Change Management!
1)Lewin’s Model sets the foundation by preparing, implementing, and sustaining change.
2)Kotter’s 8 Steps provide a detailed roadmap for executing transformation.
3)ADKAR ensures individual employees adapt and sustain the change.
4)Situational Leadership guides managers in leading teams through different stages.
5)McKinsey’s 7S ensures alignment of strategy, structure, and culture for long-term success.
Together, these models create a holistic approach to managing change effectively! If you found this helpful must share your learning in comment section!
