UNDERSTANDING THE ENGINE OIL:

The engine oil of a car is considered to be the blood of the car by people. Without blood one dies, and without engine oil your car engine would seize. Choosing the right engine oil is crucial for your car engine’s life. Oil dealers all over Pakistan have a large variety of motor oils available, with oils of various viscosity indexes, labels and prices. But before buying an engine oil for your car, it is important for one to know what all the labels on the oil can/bottle mean. And among all those labels, those digits and alphabet you see on the packing is most important. That is called the viscosity of an oil.

Viscosity is basically the resistance of a fluid to flow. Viscosity index is the ability of an engine oil to resist thinning at high temperatures. Usually the viscosity is reported at one of two temperatures, either 40°C (100°F) or 100°C (212°F). The number before the “W” stands for the viscosity at lower temperatures, while the second number stands for the viscosity at higher temperatures. This means that 10W-30 engine oil has less viscosity at cooler temperatures and higher temperatures when compared to 20W-50.

As engine oil gets hot in the engine, it begins to get thin and when it gets cold it becomes thick again. The general idea is, the greater last number the more the engine oil is resistant to thinning. So for example 20W-50 has more resistance to thinning than 10W-30. Thicker oil is generally better because it has a better film of lubrication between moving parts of the engine. For regions that are extremely cold like the northern areas of Pakistan, it is recommended to go for engine oils that have a lower range of viscosity like 5W-30 or 10W-30. The reason being that at low temperatures, oil becomes thick and this makes it flow less to all parts of the engine. An engine oil that gets too thick in winters would make it difficult for the car to start and would also effect the fuel economy of the car. سوزوکی مہران (Suzuki Mehran) دیکھ بھال کرنا بھی بہت آسان ہے۔ اس کے پرزے عام چھوٹی بڑی دکانیں سے باآسانی مل جاتے ہیں اور ان کی قیمت بھی کافی کم ہوتی ہے۔ ایک اندازے کے مطابق 2,000 سے 2,500 کلومیٹر گاڑی چلانے کے بعد اس کی سروس پر صرف 2 ہزار روپے تک خرچہ آتا ہے۔ تین لیٹر تیل تقریباً 1,400 روپے میں مل جاتا ہے، آئل فلٹر کی قیمت 150 سے 250 کے درمیان ہے جبکہ ایئرفلٹر بھی 200 روپے تک مل جاتا ہے۔ یوں سوزوکی مہران میں آئل کی تبدیلی اور دیگر ضروری کام بھی انتہائی کم پیسوں میں کیے جاسکتے ہیں۔ میرا نہیں خیال کہ کوئی شخص ان خصوصیات کی حامل گاڑی کو ناپسند کرے گا اور سوزوکی مہران سے پاکستانیوں کی محبت کا اصل راز بھی یہی ہے۔

یورو II معیارات سے قبل پیش کی جانے والی پرانی مہران میں ایک مسئلہ ‘پوائنٹ’ کا بھی تھا۔ اس مسئلے سے بچنے کا آسان حل یہ ہے کہ پرانی مہران میں 5000 سے 7000 کلومیٹر سفر کرنے کے بعد پوائنٹ تبدیل کرلینا چاہیے۔ پوائنٹ دراصل اسپارک پلگ کو کرنٹ پہنچانے والا پرزہ ہے جس کے خراب ہوجانے پر گاڑی جھٹکے کھاتی ہے یا پھر انجن اسٹارٹ ہی نہیں ہوپاتا۔ اس کے علاوہ پرانی مہران میں سسپنشن کا بھی مسئلہ دیکھا گیا ہے۔ مہران چلانے والے بہت سے افراد نے اس حوالے سے کافی شکایات کی ہیں کہ سسپنشن کا معیار زیادہ اچھا نہیں ہے۔ حتی کہ نئی مہران کے پچھلے حصے میں بھی اب تک لیف اسپرنگ سسپنشن ہی استعمال ہورہے ہیں جس کی وجہ سے کبھی کبھار سفر کے دوران گاڑی اچھلتی ہوئی محسوس ہوتی ہے۔
سوزوکی مہران کی قیمت 6 لاکھ سے 7 لاکھ روپے تک ہے۔ اس قیمت کا زیادہ انحصار مختلف ماڈلز کے ساتھ پیش کی جانے والی سہولیات (مثلاً سی این جی کے ساتھ یا بغیر) پر ہے۔ مہران کا سب سے سستا ماڈل VX ہے جس میں A/C جیسی سہولیات شامل نہیں ہے۔ جبکہ مہران VXR میں A/C فراہم کیا جاتا ہے۔ ان خصوصیات کی موجودگی کو دیکھتے ہوئے مہران کی قیمت مناسب معلوم ہوتی ہے۔ مہران جیسی خصوصیات کی حامل ایک اچھی جاپانی گاڑی کی قیمت بھی 9 سے 11 لاکھ روپے کے درمیان ہوتی ہے۔ یورو II معیار کی نئی مہران برقی فیول انجکشن (EFI) کے ساتھ پیش کی جاتی ہے۔ اس سے ایندھن کی بچت کے ساتھ گاڑی کی رفتار میں اضافہ بھی ہوتا ہے۔ EFI انجن کی حامل سوزوکی مہران طویل شاہراہوں پر ایک لیٹر میں 17 کلومیٹر جبکہ شہر میں سفر کرتے ہوئے ایک لیٹر میں 13 کلومیٹر تک سفر کرسکتی ہے۔ اس کی قیمت مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے یہ مائلیج زیادہ بری نہیں کہی جاسکتی۔ علاوہ ازیں طویل شاہراہوں پر اس کی رفتار بھی مناسب ہے کیوں کہ نجن زیادہ سے زیادہ 58 ہارس پاور تک فراہم کرسکتا ہے۔
