Pakistan SADC Excellence Awards 2026 — Celebrating Excellence, Leadership & New Partnerships 🏆

KARACHI | Friday, 11 September 2026: An evening of recognition, inspiration and meaningful networking unfolded at the Pakistan SADC Excellence Award Ceremony, hosted by Mr. Shoaib Qadri, President, Pakistan SADC Chamber Federation for Sindh & Balochistan.

The event brought together an impressive gathering of business leaders, diplomats, government officials, academics, professionals and social personalities — all sharing a common vision of strengthening Pakistan's economic and business engagement with Southern Africa and the wider SADC region.

The evening commenced with a Welcome Address by Mr. Moiuzuddin Ahmed, President, Pakistan SADC Chamber, setting the tone for an evening focused on collaboration and new opportunities.

Governance Reform Takes Centre Stage at KCFR Debate in Karachi 🇵🇰

The Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR) hosted a high-level public debate on 29 August 2026 at a local hotel in Karachi, bringing together some of the most prominent voices in Pakistan's political and policy landscape. The event, titled "Rethinking Governance in Pakistan," provided a much-needed platform for candid dialogue on the governance challenges facing the nation.

The session featured political leaders, parliamentarians, policymakers, academics, and analysts who examined the institutional, political, and administrative hurdles that continue to impede effective governance in Pakistan. Speakers explored pathways to strengthen institutions, improve public service delivery, and restore public trust in the system.

The Chairperson set the tone with an honest and thought-provoking inaugural address. Welcoming the distinguished guests and speakers, she spoke frankly about the pressing issue of incompetence and inefficiency among the ruling elite—spanning politicians, bureaucracy, and other institutions. Her words resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the urgent need for introspection and reform.

A popular figure on social media, Dr. Nasir Baig spoke his heart out, connecting with the audience on the frustrations and aspirations of ordinary Pakistanis. His passionate address reflected the public's growing demand for accountability and change.

Dr. Farooq Sattar represented the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), a party that has faced a steady decline in public popularity for over a decade. His remarks reminded the audience of the critical importance of serving the masses and learning from past mistakes.

Mr. Imran Ismail, former Governor of Sindh spoke about the concerning erosion of institutional strength, noting that even the Prime Minister finds himself constrained against the influence of powerful elite groups. His reflections painted a stark picture of the structural challenges Pakistan must confront.

The final speaker of the session, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairperson of Awam Party delivered an eloquent address on the absence of a robust governance structure and culture in Pakistan. While analyzing the systemic weaknesses, he placed Rule of Law at the very top of Pakistan's priorities, emphasizing that meaningful and lasting improvement can only emerge when the rule of law is firmly established and upheld.

Also present were Dr Tariq Rafi, Chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission; Mr Miftah Ismail, former Finance Minister; Dr Huma Baqai, Dy High Commissioner of Bangladesh; First Counsel of the Russian Consulate General, Mr Ali Vazir, Dr Imran Yousuf, Hon'y CG of Philippines, Mr Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi, former MD of House Building Finance Corp, Mr Majyd Aziz, Mr Ikram Sehgal, Chariman of Pathfinder International, Jimmy Engineer, Comm. Sadeed Malik, Mr Muhammad Fareed Alam, CEO of AKD Securities Limited, Ms Ameena Saiyid, CEO of Lightstone Publishers and many others.

The event concluded with a high tea, where guests continued the dialogue in a more informal setting—because meaningful conversations don't end when the session does. 🍵🤝
