Create beauty and harmony in your green space with variations on the colour green.

Over here, we have light green in the foreground.... it has variegated green and white leaves and is called ' Variegated Chandni'. It has white flowers that bloom many times a year, but are not fragrant.

Then, in the middle is a lime green shrub, locally called ' Variegated Raat ki rani', though it's flowers are not really visible, and no fragrance.

Right at the back, we have dark green miniature Kamni that has extremely fragrant, white flowers, blooming many times a year. Just one plant is enough to make your space totally scented!

All these shrubs need full sunlight and regular watering, with good soil that's topped up with manure at least once a year.

Collect rain water in whatever container you have handy! Over here I have used thermopol containers that I have collected... it could be your buckets, drums....anything that can hold water.

Rain water has loads of nutrients that are required for healthy growth of plants.....

Just make sure your stored water is properly covered, to ward of mosquitos, especially those that spread dengue, etc.

You don't need a grass lawn or a big space to enjoy plants. Just get them in pots and arrange them nicely!!!!

All the plants you see in this lush green spot are mostly the common ones.....ashok tree in the background, one type of ficus, red ixora, blue plumbago, the very common purple tradescantia trailing on the pebbles, a ground cover, a frond of coconut tree, and coleus to provide pops of colour.... but the combined effect with appropriate hard landscaping in the form of boulders, pebbles, and terracotta tiles is so very pleasing to the eye!!!!!

A small, uninteresting, yet strategically placed triangular patch was recently done over entirely. Only one plant, white ixora was left untouched, as it takes years to grow!!!
The makeover involved lots of flowering plants, as well as plants with showy foliage, creating a pleasing visual balance. In 4-5 months' time, the plants will cast their branches and leaves over the Gizri stone" pathway" , giving a rustic, elegant look to the space.....

Growing veggies at home is no rocket science.... you need a deep enough container, fresh Sweet earth( soil), well rotted manure, full sun and regular watering....
This is karaela( bitter gourd) vine. It's growing in a discarded bath tub, so has ample space to grow. First, the flowers appear, then a small fruit forms on the top part of the flower; it then grows into the vegetable.....nature at its best!!!!

The magic allure of lillies...... They provide colour during the long, hot summer months; some, for example,( No. 4)...Variegated Canna..... produce vibrant orange or yellow flowers almost throughout the year.....wheras others, for example, Daylily (No.5) bloom only during daytime. Then there are some that make an appearance only during rains( No.6)..... and are called.... you guessed it!....Rain Lillies!!!!

Climbers and creepers regularly need a good shake to dislodge dried out leaves.... they need regular cleaning/ pruning as well. Break off all dead twigs, remove all dead flower heads, trim any unwanted branches, so that your plant gets an energy boost. Best times of the year are right now, just before monsoons hit us, or whatever rains come our way!....and February-early April.

From a barren space to an elegant, modern/ contemporary garden that's mostly hard landscaped with a few plants, and a water feature....
Our latest project has just created this serene, flower-filled and fragrant haven with plenty of seating area and minimum water requirement. The water feature can even be fitted with a pump to provide a gentle, gurgling sound of water in the background... what more can one want!
