Geoarchaeological Studies Of Newly discovered City Wall at Mohenjo-Daro!!
Mudbrick samples have been systematically collected by Prof. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer, Syed Faraz Ali Geologist/Geoarchaeologist and Ali Lashari Field Director, from different levels of 7m high and 6m wide newly discovered CITY WALL at the World Heritage Site of Mohenjo-daro for detailed geoarchaeological investigations. These samples will provide valuable insights into the raw material sources, manufacturing technology, construction practices, and environmental conditions prevailing at the time of construction.

This important discovery was made during the Excavation Seasons 2025 (May–June) and Dec 2025–Jan 2026, under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer.

The success of this achievement reflects the dedicated efforts, technical skills, and valuable contributions of each team member. This finding will significantly enhance our understanding of the urban planning and socio-economic organization of the Indus Civilization.

Latest Discovery City Wall at Mohenjo-daro – A Major Breakthrough!

We are excited to share an important new discovery from the ongoing Pak–US Joint Archaeological Mission Collaborated by Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department Government of Sindh and Sindh Exploration and adventure Society SEAS Pakistan at Mohenjo-daro, Under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer Asma Ibrahim including Team members Ali Lashari Field Director Faraz Ali , Danish A Sheikh Mehar Khan Abid Hussain Ansari Zahid Hussain Detho Nawazish Ali , Abid Ali Mahar
Our team has unearthed a mudbrick city wall surrounding the main city of Mohenjo-daro, which was previously reported by Sir Mortimer Wheeler (1950–51) as a large mudbrick protective Bund against the Indus River. Based on new excavations and stratigraphic evidence, we now interpret this structure as a city wall, likely constructed to regulate trade, manage access, and serve broader administrative and urban planning purposes.
This discovery offers fresh insight into the urban organization, planning strategies, and socio-economic control systems of the Indus Valley Civilization and represents a significant step forward in understanding one of the world’s earliest cities.
