📕THE MATH OF SHRINKAGE %
Why a Fabric That Looks Perfect Can Still Become a Buyer Complaint
A fabric may look perfect during inspection.
👉The stitching may be flawless.
👉The finishing may appear excellent.
But after the first wash…
📉 The garment no longer fits.
and suddenly, a “GOOD SHIPMENT” becomes a customer complaint.
This is the Hidden Power—and Danger—of Fabric Shrinkage.
🟢 What is Shrinkage?
Shrinkage is the percentage reduction in fabric dimensions after washing, steaming, drying, or finishing.
Simple formula:
Shrinkage % = ((Original Measurement − After Wash Measurement) ÷ Original Measurement) × 100
Example:
📏 Original Length = 100 cm
📏 After Wash = 96 cm
Shrinkage = 4%
Now imagine 10,000 garments with 4% uncontrolled shrinkage.
That small percentage can create:
❌ Size inconsistency
❌ Retail returns
❌ Buyer claims
❌ Brand reputation damage
❌ Repeat order loss
At Pakistan Quality Inspection & Services (PQIS), we verify shrinkage performance before shipment through:
✔ Wash testing
✔ Fabric performance analysis
✔ Dimensional stability checks
✔ Buyer specification verification
Because customers don’t measure shrinkage…
They only notice when their garment no longer fits.
