Big Changes Coming to Amazon Seller Access – What You Need to Know
For years, agencies, freelancers, and consultants like myself have relied on secondary user access to manage Amazon seller accounts. It was simple: get invited, log in, and start working.
But Amazon is shaking things up.
The era of secondary user access for third parties is coming to an end. Instead, Amazon is introducing a structured vetting process through the Solution Provider Portal (SPP).
🚨 What’s Changing?
Agencies & Service Providers: You’ll now need to register and get vetted through SPP to access seller accounts.
Secondary Users: This option will ONLY be available for a seller’s direct employees.
Freelancers, VAs, & Consultants: If you work with multiple sellers, you’ll now be classified as a third-party provider and must register in SPP.
What Does This Mean for You?
Sellers: You’ll need to verify who you’re inviting to your account. Amazon will ask you to declare if the invitee is an internal employee or an external service provider. Misclassifying someone could impact your account.
Agencies & Service Providers: Secondary user access is no longer an option. You must register in SPP to continue managing client accounts.
Freelancers & VAs: Amazon now considers you a third-party provider. This means you’ll need to go through Amazon’s vetting process, just like an agency.
⏳ The Deadline?
Amazon is rolling this out in batches, but by August 31st, 2025, secondary user access will no longer be an option for external providers.
Why This Matters
This is a major shift in how Amazon manages account access. For sellers, it means more control and responsibility over who can access their accounts. For agencies, freelancers, and consultants, it marks the end of the “just get invited as a secondary user” era.
But let’s address the elephant in the room: Many freelancers and VAs don’t have passports or formal IDs required for Amazon’s verification process. This could create challenges for the Amazon consultant industry.
🚀 What Should You Do?
If you’re a seller, agency, or freelancer, now is the time to start transitioning. Amazon is sending out messages in waves, so if you receive one, don’t ignore it.
