Mr. Muhammad Ali Tabba “Sitara-e-Imtiaz" (CEO of Lucky Cement Limited and Chairman of KIA Lucky Motors and Lucky Electric Power Company Limited) addressed the CEO Summit Karachi 2026 as a distinguished speaker, sharing critical insights on taxation and its impact on the manufacturing sector.
He emphasized that when taxation policies are not aligned with regional or global standards, they create distortions in the economy. Such imbalances encourage practices like misdeclaration, under-invoicing, smuggling, and other informal mechanisms as businesses attempt to remain competitive or maximize profits. He noted that this is not unique to Pakistan; similar practices emerge in any country where tax structures are inconsistent or disproportionately high.
He highlighted that excessive or misaligned taxation can push businesses away from the documented economy, making it easier for some to operate outside the tax net rather than conduct transparent operations. His remarks underscored the need for balanced, fair, and competitive tax policies to strengthen manufacturing, promote compliance, and ensure sustainable economic growth.
