Bolschare Energy has completed two new photovoltaic installations at the Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) in San Vicente de Alcรกntara and Alburquerque (Extremadura, Spain), adding a combined installed capacity of 116.75 kWp to two infrastructures characterised by intensive and recurring electricity demand.
The projects were delivered at facilities managed by the PROMEDIO Consortium of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, through SAV-CICLAGUA-INDRAGUA UTE (II) โ Lot 2 Vegas Bajas, comprising:
San Vicente de Alcรกntara ยท 66.6 kWp
Alburquerque ยท 50.15 kWp
Both sites incorporate grid-connected self-consumption systems with zero export, using photovoltaic modules mounted on concrete structures, with an ex*****on period of three weeks per installation.
Based on a prior analysis of the energy consumption and demand profiles of each WWTP, Bolschare Energy defined a photovoltaic self-consumption solution designed to optimise the use of on-site generation at each facility. Limited available space was a key constraint in both projects, requiring the design and layout to be optimised to align generation with each facilityโs demand profile and maximise on-site consumption of the electricity produced, achieving an estimated utilisation rate of between 70% and 80%.
Integrating distributed renewable generation into water infrastructure can reduce exposure to energy costs, improve operational efficiency and support the decarbonisation of essential services.
