João Janeiro, Project Manager at Bolschare Agriculture, presented during the FoodLab-CTAEX Demo Day the progress of the project:

“𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻-𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝘀”

This initiative responds to a real and growing challenge within the sector. The rapid expansion of pistachio production across the Iberian Peninsula and other international markets requires increasingly effective solutions to ensure food safety, reduce commercial risk and facilitate access to the most demanding export markets.

At Bolschare, we are developing post-harvest protocols aimed at:
• Reducing the risk associated with aflatoxin contamination.
• Enhancing food safety and final product quality.
• Minimising economic losses for both growers and processors.
• Strengthening the competitiveness and export potential of the sector.
• Facilitating the integration of innovative solutions into existing industrial processes.

This project reflects one of the strategic pillars driving Bolschare Agriculture: combining agricultural management, technical expertise, applied innovation and market-oriented research to create tangible value across agri-food assets.

The future of agriculture will not be defined solely by producing more, but by producing better — with greater traceability, enhanced food safety and a stronger capacity to meet evolving international standards.

We would like to thank CTAEX and the FoodLab programme for providing a platform that enables the development of projects contributing to the advancement and professionalisation of both agriculture and the agri-food industry.

Following harvest, receiving, sorting, grading and quality control operations are essential to ensure product uniformity, preserve its characteristics and meet the specifications of different markets.

The combination of agronomic expertise, efficient industrial processes and technology enhances traceability and optimises the utilisation of production.

Within the pistachio value chain, every technical decision has a direct impact on final product quality.

⚡ The Spanish Government has just launched a public consultation on the royal decree that will establish mandatory minimum quotas for biomethane in natural gas sales across Spain.

The roadmap is clear and progressive: starting at 0.5% in 2028 and reaching 6% by 2035, equivalent to approximately 10 TWh. For gas retailers and large direct consumers, incorporating renewable gas is no longer optional.

The starting point says it all: in 2021, Spain had a single operational biomethane plant. By early 2026, there are already 23, with 21 actively injecting into the gas grid. The sector did not wait for the regulatory framework to move.

At 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, we have been working in this direction for some time. Biomethane is part of our decarbonisation strategy alongside solar photovoltaics and self-consumption, three lines built on the same logic: producing clean energy from resources that already exist in the territory. Agricultural and livestock residues that would otherwise generate no value are transformed into renewable gas injected into the grid. Rural areas stop being mere energy consumers and become producers. Waste stops being a cost and becomes a territorial asset.

The regulation that is coming only confirms what we had already chosen to believe in.

Today is about recognizing a kind of strength that often goes unseen 💚

The balance, the patience, the resilience, and the quiet leadership that shape not only families, but also the way we work and grow together.

We are grateful to share this journey with women who bring that same care, dedication, and heart into everything they do.

To all the mothers at Bolschare and around the world, your impact goes further than words can express.

Today, and every day, we celebrate you.

⚡️ Decarbonising agriculture is not an obligation; it is an opportunity.

Our Chief Operating Officer, Antonio Alvarez, represented 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 at the ExpoEnergea decarbonisation forum, sharing an approach that goes beyond theory: it is already being deployed across our super-intensive olive and almond farms.

A proven, economically viable and scalable model, structured in three phases:

🔆 Phase 1 — Photovoltaics for self-consumption. Irrigation takes place during daylight hours; generation occurs simultaneously. The alignment is inherent. Investment payback is achieved within 5–7 years, with an operational lifespan exceeding 25 years.

🌱 Phase 2 — Biogas. Irrigation demand extends into night-time periods, and agricultural residues—together with those from neighbouring rural communities—represent a competitive advantage rather than a cost centre.

♻️ Phase 3 — Circular economy. Digestate from biogas plants is transformed into organic fertilisers that are returned to the soil, effectively closing the loop.

Measured outcomes from Phase 1, certified through our Arima platform (accredited by AENOR):

▸ 60% coverage of farm energy consumption
▸ 45% reduction in operational costs
▸ Over 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions
▸ Lower noise pollution

Agriculture has undergone industrialisation. As with any industry, its competitiveness now depends on how effectively it manages energy.

Our thanks to Expoenergea and to every attendee whose discussions reinforced a clear message: the future of agriculture lies at the intersection of energy, farming and territory.
