There are so many copywriting myths floating around that it’s no wonder people get stuck. Let’s bust some of the biggest ones and get you writing copy that actually converts!
🚫Myth 1: You need to sound professional.
The best copy sounds human. If you’re too formal, still, or robotic, you lose connection (which is why you should be careful using AI!🤖).
The trick? Write like you talk. Imagine chatting with your dream client over coffee - what would you say?
🚫Myth 2: Selling = being pushy.
Good copy doesn’t shove your offer in someone’s face. It guides them to how you can help. Think of it like matchmaking - you’re connecting the right people with the right solution!
🚫Myth 3: More features = more sales.
Features tell, benefits sell.
No one buys a product or service for all the bells and whistles - they buy the outcome. They don’t want a ‘12-week coaching program’, they want less stress, more dream clients, and a business that runs smoother than their morning coffee routine.
🚫Myth 4: More adjectives make copy more persuasive.
Ever seen a product described as “the most amazing, life-changing, revolutionary, mind-blowingly incredible offer you’ll ever experience in your entire existence”?
Overloading with adjectives makes copy fluffier, not stronger. Strong copy is clear, concise, and focused on benefits over descriptions. Less ‘life-changing’, more ‘here’s how it actually changes your life.’
🚫Myth 5: Long copy doesn’t work - people don’t read it.
People read what interests them. If your copy is engaging and relevant, they’ll keep reading. Long copy works when it’s compelling and valuable.
🚫Myth 6: Anyone can write their own copy.
Of course, but great copy takes skill. It’s one thing to write words—it’s another to write words that convert. (And let’s be honest, writing for your own business is the hardest thing ever. Even I get stuck on my own copy sometimes!)
If any of these myths made you think “oops, that’s me,” you’re not alone! Let’s chat about getting your copy working like a charm.
