What if renewable energy infrastructure could do more than just generate electricity? 🌱⚡🚗

Karlskrona Municipality invested in our Giraffe hybrid solar + wind power plant to produce clean energy directly on site and charge its municipal fleet of electric cars and e-bikes. The 12-metre-high installation combines 24 solar panels and a wind turbine and became part of Karlskrona’s mobility point.
But the most interesting part of this project was what happened afterwards.

The Giraffe didn't just generate renewable electricity — its visibility helped encourage greater use of the municipality's EV fleet. It turned renewable energy and electric mobility into something tangible and visible to employees and the public.

According to the municipality's experience presented in this video, the alternatives of upgrading the local grid connection and investing separately in communication/marketing to increase EV utilisation would have cost more than the Giraffe itself. Compared with those alternatives, the investment had a payback of less than one year.

That is what makes this case particularly interesting: the value wasn't measured only in kWh produced, but also in grid infrastructure avoided, EV utilisation increased, and sustainability made visible.

Happy to see Innoventum´s Off Grid installation still running smooth after so many years. Being disconnected from the grid is possible with the correct sized equipment (solar charger, grid forming inverter, batteries).
