How exponential growth in neuroscience and computer science will change humanity and the world

How exponential growth in neuroscience and computer science will change humanity and the world. A cortical neuromorphic network, system and method employ a plurality of neuromorphic nodes arranged in a network layer. The cortical neuromorphic network includes a neuromorphic node of the network layer in which the neuromorphic node includes a spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) synapse and a neuromorphic neuron. The neuromorphic node is configured to receive a feedforward spike signal from selected ones of a plurality of input neurons of an input layer and to provide an output spike signal as a recurrent spike signal to the neuromorphic nodes of the network layer. A combination of the recurrent and feedforward spike signals is an excitatory spike signal of the neuromorphic node. The cortical neuromorphic system includes the neuromorphic nodes configured to operate according to a cycle and time slots of synaptic time multiplexing. The method includes receiving and weighting the excitatory spike signal using the STDP synapse and producing the output spike signal.

Brain stimulation and ethics in artificial intelligence that interact with humans

The Human Brain Project

The existence of in-silico twins of individual brains raises a number of philosophical, societal and ethical issues, such as: What precisely is a “virtual twin brain”? What are the risks involved in attempting to copy the one organ we believe to be the seat of our consciousness and our emotional processes? How fine-grained is the individual fingerprint of a connectome-based brain model?

By professor Martin Ingvar Karolinska Institute Sweden

For each new insight into the function of the brain, it appears to be more and more complex. But the complexity of the brain also provides important answers to other research, that of artificial intelligence. Almost all major successes with AI in recent years are based on knowledge from the brain: complexity carries groundbreaking solutions.

What does it mean for human cognition if AI frees us from the need to memorize a phone number, directions, or a poem?

The machinery of thought goes through the research and history of the brain, as well as the attempts made to imitate it - to create a "machine". Martin Ingvar not only compiles the state of research but also leads us further into what may be the greatest upheaval in human history.

Will AI give us more freedom or, in the long run, provoke an armageddon like the worst dystopias in Hollywood movies?

Brain Probes: development of new nano, micro, genetic, optical, and electrical technologies making it possible to study an ever broader range of brain structures and functions in greater depth, and more rapidly than is currently possible.
Ethical, legal and social issues: The HBP (The Human Brain Project) will raise important ethical, legal, social, political and philosophical issues both about the research itself and its potential applications. At the same time, its contributions to knowledge of the brain, cognition and behavior will have important philosophical and conceptual implications touching on basic concepts of what makes us human Against this background, the HBP will include a major program of activities dedicated to ethical, legal and social issues. The program will bring together scholars in the brain sciences, social sciences, and the humani ties to study and discuss relevant issues and will use all available channels to en courage open, well-informed debate, to dissipate potential public concerns and to enhance appreciation of the potential benefits of the project’s work.

Imagine an apple — its greenness, sour taste and its fresh, crisp crunch; how does the brain create a representation of such an apple?

This is one of the questions the Human Brain Project (HBP) is asking. To better understand the human brain, you need theories, models and conceptual frameworks, which can be tested and refined. The HBP is supporting the work of cognitive and theoretical neuroscientists to unlock deeper insights into the workings of our brains.
