There was a time when visiting China meant seeing almost everyone carrying a tumbler of tea. Coffee-specific tumblers were rare, and the only coffee brands you would commonly see were large international chains trying their luck in the world's largest market.

Then coffee shops began appearing everywhere, like mushrooms on a damp log. Yet many felt surprisingly quiet, frequented mostly by early adopters, curious consumers, and those seeking a different kind of social space.

Fast forward to 2026, and the scene is almost unrecognizable. Especially in Shanghai, the unofficial coffee capital of the world, where the sheer explosion of options has created one of the most dynamic café landscapes anywhere. Coffee shops are everywhere, and they are busy. Coffee is no longer a niche market—it has become part of daily life, with cafés constantly reinventing themselves to stay unique and relevant in an ever-growing and increasingly competitive market.

隨著市場逐漸發展,咖啡館如雨後春筍般湧現。然而當時許多咖啡館卻顯得相當冷清,主要吸引早期咖啡愛好者、好奇的消費者,以及尋找不同社交空間的人群。

Every year, Indonesia Kopi Fest travels across multiple cities in Indonesia, bringing together coffee communities, roasters, cafés, and coffee enthusiasts from all over the country. This year, the festival begins in the city of Medan.

The main purpose of the festival is simple yet meaningful: to introduce coffees and coffee culture from different regions of Indonesia to the local community in Medan. This year, several well-known coffee brands and industry names from Jakarta also made their presence felt by opening booths and participating in the event.

What makes the Medan edition especially unique is the atmosphere surrounding the festival itself. Rather than functioning purely as a specialty coffee exhibition, many visitors experience it more like a vibrant food bazaar. Alongside the strong presence of local and national coffee brands, the two-story festival is also filled with a wide variety of food stalls, creating an environment that feels lively, welcoming, and accessible to everyone.

People come in large numbers not only to explore coffee, but also to spend time together, discover good food and drinks, and enjoy the experience as a whole. Families gather, friends reconnect, and communities meet under one roof. In many ways, the festival becomes more than just a coffee event — it becomes a social gathering.

No matter how different people may be, one thing remains certain: coffee brings people together.

這個活動的宗旨簡單卻意義深遠:向棉蘭當地社群介紹來自印尼不同產區的咖啡及其獨特的咖啡文化。今年,數個來自雅加達的知名咖啡品牌及業界代表也參與其中,透過設立展位與現場交流,為活動增添更多精彩內容。

棉蘭站最特別之處,在於整個活動所營造出的氛圍。與其說它是一場專業精品咖啡展,更像是一個充滿活力的美食市集。除了眾多本地及全國性咖啡品牌外,兩層樓的展場還聚集了各式各樣的餐飲攤位,讓整個空間顯得熱鬧、友善且適合所有人參與。

人們來到這裡,不只是為了品嚐咖啡,更是為了相聚、探索美食與飲品,以及享受整體活動帶來的樂趣。家人同行、朋友重聚、不同社群彼此交流。在許多方面,這場活動早已超越單純的咖啡展覽,而成為一場促進人與人連結的社交盛會。

Coffee, as we know it, is only the final expression.

Long before brewing — and even before roasting — there are countless critical steps that shape what ultimately ends up in your cup. One of the most important stages happens here: drying, cleaning, and sorting the green coffee beans.

At this dry processing facility, the coffee is first carefully dried, then cleaned and sorted before it is ready for roasting. These processes help ensure consistency, transparency, and quality in every batch — making sure that what we receive truly reflects what we pay for.

While roasting can refine and highlight the best characteristics of a coffee, it should never be relied upon to correct flaws that should have been addressed earlier in the process. Exceptional coffee begins at origin, through careful handling and attention at every stage.

That is why Innoroma continues to maintain close relationships with farmers and coffee processors — learning more deeply about each process, working together to improve quality, and continuously incorporating this understanding into our craft.

True quality starts long before the roast. And when every step is done with care, every cup can be experienced at its fullest potential.

Indonesia is often dubbed one of the world’s most coffee-loving nations.

With Jakarta’s population exceeding 11 million people — and more than 40 million when including the surrounding satellite cities — it’s no surprise that the capital offers an endless array of coffee options.

Competition here is intense. Established brands have long secured their place in the market, while a new wave of ambitious local and international players continues to enter aggressively, all seeking a foothold in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic coffee scenes.

Ironically, Jakarta’s infamous traffic has become one of the catalysts behind this culture. Instead of battling hours on the road, many people choose to wait it out in malls, cafés, and rest areas, creating a city that feels constantly alive well into the night.

Coffee has become an inseparable part of modern life. Like fuel, it is consumed continuously — woven into routines, conversations, work, and moments of rest.

And as people within the industry, we can only hope to see this momentum continue to grow.

In contrast, while some upscale spaces may feel empty at times, coffee continues to draw people in—quietly consistent, always relevant, yet still accessible and inviting through its familiar aroma and everyday presence.

Seen here in Singapore, where every detail is intentionally designed, reminding us that in a market this mature, success is never accidental—it is designed with clarity and purpose.
