Insightful Analytics spent half of its time in Jakarta last year, together with its sister company, to introduce its social media analytics services to the Indonesia market.

Presentations after presentations were held, appointments after appointments were set, the countless coffee sessions, attended a number of events, seminars and networking sessions - and the response? Overwhelming.

Then again, the overwhelming response did not make us to be contented. And when we were told by many whom we met in Jakarta that our services are new in Indonesia market and that it brings value to businesses and corporations, the more we feel there's a lot more work for us to do.

The feedback we received from these businesses and some are even big corporations, the presence of ready tools that provides ready data analytics, are not sufficient for them. At the end of the day, often a time, they have difficulties in analyzing and interpreting those data in hand. This leads to insufficient information to be presented to the Top Management.

They added these information are useful for their operations team as well, such as Marketing, Corporate Communications, Research & Development, as well as the Crisis Management team, for some.

We know now that we need to assist them, to close that gap. Till date, we are still working with affiliate partners which were formed during the time we were in Jakarta.

Insightful Analytics now is trying to help SMEs in Singapore to also benefit from our social media data analytics services to assist in the different aspects of their business. We gather data mentions related to the business from across all social media platforms and analyse them to provide insights for businesses.

We will be rolling out our social analytics packages and talks for SMEs to inform how social data works for them.

Enhanced digitalisation has provided a treasure trove of unfiltered customer sentiments on social media platforms that SMEs can tap on to adjust or enhance their products. For example, CTC Travel is a travel agency veteran that has successfully tapped on digital customer sentiments and adjusted their product offerings ahead of a major travel fair on their calendar.

In 2014, CTC Travel listened to online chatter regarding travel and found out that younger people are increasingly interested in going on a free-and-easy drive tour in Australia4. Next, CTC Travel created a page, “CTC Travel to Australia”, and released content about Australia drive tour experience. The resulting content was well-received and both the page and official CTC Travel Page saw an increase in fans.

Building up anticipation online prior to actual introduction at this travel fair proved to be a winning strategy as CTC Travel saw a 25% increase in walk-ins and $20,000 in revenue which represented an ROI of 167%. Likewise, SME owners can leverage sentiment analysis to discern hot topics and promote relevant products online in the run-up to their planned sales events.

Too many retail and consumer products SMEs have been failing to leverage the data at their disposal, missing out on the resulting insights.
