🚫 5 Subtle Signs Your Interviewer is Already Saying No!

Recognizing signs of disinterest from an interviewer can help you gauge how well the interview is going.

Here are the top five indicators that may suggest the interviewer is not interested in you as a candidate:

1. ****Lack of Engagement 🤔

A clear sign of disinterest is when the interviewer shows minimal engagement during the conversation. This can manifest as:

💥Avoiding eye contact
💥Frequently checking their phone or watch
💥Interrupting you often

If the interviewer seems distracted or unenthusiastic, it may indicate they are not seriously considering you for the role.

2. ****Rushed or Short Interviews ⏳

If your interview is significantly shorter than expected, such as a one-hour interview ending in 20 minutes, this can be a red flag.

Statements like "I have another meeting" or an abrupt conclusion can suggest that the interviewer has already made a decision about your fit for the position.

3. ****Negative Body Language 🙅‍♂️

Body language speaks volumes about an interviewer's feelings. Signs of negative body language include:

💥Crossed arms or a closed posture
💥Lack of smiles or nods
💥Fidgeting or looking at the clock

These cues often indicate discomfort or disapproval, suggesting that the interviewer may not see you as a suitable candidate.

4. ****Vague Responses and Lack of Enthusiasm 😐

If the interviewer provides vague answers to your questions or fails to highlight appealing aspects of the job and company, it could signal disinterest. A passionate employer typically "sells" the role to you, while a lack of enthusiasm might mean they are not eager to have you on board.

5. ****Mention of Other Strong Candidates 🏆

When an interviewer frequently references other candidates, it may be a subtle way of indicating that they view you as less qualified.

Phrases like "We've had some impressive candidates" can serve as a warning sign that you're not at the top of their list.

By being aware of these signs, you can better assess your performance during an interview and adjust your approach in future opportunities.

We’d love to hear your thoughts!

What was your most memorable interview experience, and what signs did you notice that indicated the interviewer’s interest (or lack thereof)?

🌟 5 Mindset Shifts to Unlock Resilience and Thrive in Turbulent Times 🌟

In today's fast-paced, ever-changing work environment, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the future.

However, it's precisely in these moments that our mindset can become our greatest asset.

By adopting a few key shifts in perspective, we can unlock resilience, boost creativity, and achieve success despite adversity.

The 5 Mindset Shifts:

1. From Survivor to Thriver: Reframe Challenges as Opportunities 🌱

Instead of merely surviving, focus on thriving. View challenges as chances to learn, grow, and innovate. Ask yourself:

* "What skills can I develop?"
* "What relationships can I strengthen?"
* "What new perspectives can I gain?"

2. From Fixed to Fluid: Embrace Adaptability 🔄

In a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world, rigidity can be crippling. Cultivate a growth mindset, and be open to pivoting when circumstances change. Remember: flexibility is strength, not weakness.

3. From Solo to Synergistic: Leverage Collective Genius 🤝

No one has all the answers. Seek diverse perspectives, collaborate with colleagues, and empower others to contribute. Together, you'll create solutions that exceed individual limitations.

4. From Fear to Curiosity: Reframe Failure as Feedback ❓

Fear of failure can paralyze. Instead, view setbacks as valuable feedback guiding you toward improvement. Ask:

* "What can I learn from this experience?"
* "How can I apply these insights moving forward?"

5. From Burnout to Balance: Prioritize Self-Care 🧘‍♀️

Resilience requires replenishment. Make time for activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Recognize that self-care is not selfish; it's essential for sustained performance.

By integrating these mindset shifts into your daily approach, you'll be better equipped to navigate uncertainty, build resilience, and achieve success.

Remember, your mindset is your most powerful tool – sharpen it, and you'll unlock a brighter future.

Which mindset shift resonates with you the most? Share your experiences, insights, or challenges in the comments below.

Let's support each other in cultivating resilience and thriving in turbulent times!

4. Engineering + Anthropology ⚙️👥
Understanding human behavior and cultural context is crucial for developing solutions that meet real-world needs. Combining engineering expertise with anthropological insights leads to more effective, user-centered designs that truly address user challenges.

Focus on being employable rather than being employed.

31/10/2018

I was often being asked by my coachees: "Which industry should I get into?"

Certainly, most of them know why they are retrenched. Either the industry is not doing well or their profession is being replaced by the latest tech.

There's a lot of uncertainty when you are in the 40s. They are worried employers may prefer younger candidates.

I won't deny it's a challenging task to help them.

The technology changes so fast nowadays. Even what you learned last year may be outdated today. So what can you do?

One suggestion is to have a good balance of both hard skills and soft skills, and that one should have a continuous learning roadmap. Learning need not be in the classroom setting. There are a lot of MOOC online courses one can enroll too.

So what are hard skills?

E.g.: if you are a logistics manager, it can be:

Warehousing

Operations

Compliance

RF Scanner

Logistics Software

How about soft skills?

Collaboration

Proactiveness

Self-Driven

Accuracy

Effective communication

Hard skills are important, but soft skills are equally important too.

To go into any new industry, ask yourself what hard skills can you transfer? More than 50% will be a smoother transition, less than that will be a struggle.

Same goes to soft skills. But this is easier as it can be self-taught.

Why your job search might fail?

Well, you've already taken a look around your environment, determined your professional objective, and created a career branding strategy.

You are almost on your way towards starting a successful job search. By now you should already have an idea of what industry to pursue, and what position to target.

Are you ready?

One of the most essential (and often most neglected) aspects of job search is clearly defining a target market.

Take a few moments to ponder on these questions:

1. Why have you chosen your particular industry?
2. Whom are your services meant for?
3. Whom do you want to be in business with?

In order to conduct an effective job search, you must know precisely whom you are trying to reach.

A clear, reasonable and sensible definition of your target market ensures effective time management in finding appropriate new employment.

Aside from enthusiasm and willingness to do the work required, you also need a focus on your search.

You do not want to spend valuable time pursuing contacts and conducting research on organizations that are not likely to direct to right positions.

Staying focused with a well-defined target market can shorten your job search process dramatically.

Remember, it's all about your positioning.

Everyone's perception of something might be different.
What others see it as negative while you see it as positive.

You don't need to follow others point of view, but you can use it to evaluate your own point of view.

Life is already full of noises, so you need to pay even more attention to your own little small voice.

Your life journey and others are different. The path you are going to take might be different from others.

Some choose complexity, some choose simplicity. There's no right or wrong decisions. Because no matter what decision you make, there's an outcome in which you decide what's next.

If it is a success, celebrate. If it is a mistake, learn and grow.

Life can be an interesting journey if you open up your mind and welcome both success and failures.

There's no need to put up a defense if you make a mistake. Because without mistakes, you have not learned anything new. Acknowledge it, accept it, evaluate it, and move on.

And if it is a success, you don't have to brag about it. Celebration can be in small forms. And it will be even greater if you can share your story and tips so as to encourage and inspire others.

The journey ahead can be unpredictable. But as long as we are able to explore with an open mind on any outcome, it is a life worth walking through.

Five Signals to know whether you’ll be in the retrenchment list:

1. You have a new boss after a merger and both of them can’t see eye to eye
2. Parts of your job role are being removed and delegated to other team members
3. You are being sidelined for some important meetings which normally require you to attend
4. The new software that is going to be implemented may automate parts of your job scope
5. Some of your department functions are beginning to outsource to other developing countries

Of course, there might be other signals that you should be aware of that might lead to being retrenched.

There are mainly two things you can do.

Either you do nothing and hope you are not in the list or you take action to prepare for unforeseen circumstances.

I worked with a lot of retrenched employees for the past few years. And I can say that most of us are not prepared for job loss.
Nobody will ever think they are the ones in the list, especially they are doing well in their respective role.

But in today’s economy, there is no job security. The only thing you can do is to secure yourself and be employable at all times.

One of the advice I gave to my clients is that more than 50% of the jobs are hired through recommendations and referrals.

So never ignore the power of personal networking.
