How long is a valid work permit for a helper in Singapore Transfer Maid?
In Singapore, a migrant domestic worker's (MDW) Work Permit is generally valid for up to 2 years.
However, there are a few important nuances that can cause that timeline to shift:
Passport Validity: The Work Permit will only be issued for up to 1 month before the helper's passport expires. For example, if her passport only has 14 months left on it, the Work Permit will only be granted for 13 months.
Security Bond Coverage: The validity is also tied to the medical insurance and security bond provided by the employer. If the insurance policy is only taken out for 1 year, the permit will match that timeframe.
Age Limit: For a helper to continue working, she must be under 60 years old. If she is approaching 60, the permit will only be valid until her 60th birthday.
Assuming the passport is fully valid and the insurance covers the standard duration, you can comfortably expect that 2-year timeline. When that period wraps up, you have the option to renew it for another 2 years if both parties agree to continue the employment.
