3 Lessons for Successful Leadership Learned from Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore Minister for Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-charge of Singapore’s Smart Nation Initiative. http://wp.me/p1uNS9-5e

1) Listen to people. Politicians, business leaders and particularly professional speakers have the gift of gab but rarely have the gift of listening. I've experienced Dr. Vivian LISTEN to a man with head trauma injury go on and on about how the government needed to do more for people like him. Maybe it's his doctor's training. Maybe an extra large heart and empathy 'gland'.

How governments and companies are KILLING productivity... (part 4). "Success without successor is failure."

4) Thinking you or any of your team are indispensable. If someone is truly indispensable, they've not done their job well. No government or business can be dependent upon one individual for its existence. We have to groom our successors (note the plural). If no one can succeed us, or take over for us for a week, a month or a year, we've not done our job well of grooming our successors… [ 213 more words. ]

How governments and companies are KILLING productivity... (part 3) Think differently ...

3) Quit asking the clueless to solve our problems! We had a Harvard Ph.D come to Singapore and share at a government sponsored productivity seminar proclaim, "The way to boost productivity is not to give employees more money but to give them carbon offset credits." The guy was clueless about humanity! I'm sorry but a well educated fool is still a fool. [ 197 more words. ]

How governments and companies are KILLING productivity... (part 2) Solutions.

2) Seeing the solution as hiring / importing more bodies to get work done. Maximilien Ringelmann proved 'The Ringelmann Effect'. "When working in groups, individuals slacken." Adding more people to a 'team' often lets individual members perform at a lower level. SOLUTIONS: A. Measure performance and make it transparent with an analytic and then find ways to boost individual productivity with technology and innovative procedures and equip them with the cutting edge technology and tools. How governments and companies are KILLING productivity. Examine your goals, SMART goals & stupid goals.

How 1) Thinking MORE will make you PRODUCTIVE: How many hours are people working per day? In Singapore where I live, the average person works 46 hours a week with managers putting in 52 to 58 hours and C-Suiters, Entrepreneurs and top government officials investing 60+ hours per week. Since Henry Ford's meticulous studies and the myriad of other studies since have proven, putting in more than 40 hours a week will leave the worker with low productivity for each succeeding hour. 5 Productivity changes organisations must make NOW. http://wp.me/p1uNS9-4y

Companies will NOT attract Gen Y until they make these 5 changes. Failing to do so will result in either going out of business or a dramatic drop in productivity, profits and an acute labour shortage. These are not ‘suggestions’, they are… [ 179 more words. ]
