This is such a good read.

"We all know that distinctiveness – originality – is valuable. We are all taught to “be yourself.” What I’m really asking you to do is to embrace and be realistic about how much energy it takes to maintain that distinctiveness. The world wants you to be typical – in a thousand ways, it pulls at you. Don’t let it happen.

You have to pay a price for your distinctiveness, and it’s worth it. The fairy tale version of “be yourself” is that all the pain stops as soon as you allow your distinctiveness to shine. That version is misleading. Being yourself is worth it, but don’t expect it to be easy or free. You’ll have to put energy into it continuously."

Did you notice that Google launched a new algorithm this Monday? They're calling it "the June 2019 core update" and sites everywhere are feeling the effects.

Lots of big news sites have definitely taken a hit... One SEO Director went on record saying that they saw their "Discover traffic drop by 90%" and it "has not improved." but other sites are seeing massive increase in their search visibility and traffic.

What's the difference?

It's all about the CONTENT. Quality content that site visitors actually get value from is what Google (and your readers) want.

Fun fact: Give it to them you get rewarded, by both Google AND your readers!

Just checked the app and seems like this update is in... Have you tried the Quiz stickers? I like how they are making engagement fun and you can even add an educational element into it. This makes it so convenient to learn about your audience while allowing them an opportunity to share and talk about you with their friends.

So happy to see how social media is evolving to support good and interesting content.

"Another way Instagram is trying to increase engagement is by introducing quiz stickers. Quiz stickers are labels that can be added to the images in Instagram Stories that allow users to select from a multiple choice answer.

Quiz stickers have a form and function similar to other stickers that Instagram users can utilize, such as the poll sticker or the emoji slider. As one would assume, the stickers are easy to use. All users need to do is select the quiz sticker from tray after taking a photo or video. You then write in your questions and create between two and four possible answer choices. You select the correct answer, then share your story."

I know its common practice to ask questions to increase engagement, now even for videos, we need to be careful with the words we use.

I've heard that baits used in captions ( even on LinkedIn) will definitely lower your reach in terms of algorithms. Now this includes audio in videos too!

Just finished listening this podcast, Business Lunch with Roland Frasier. So many takeaways from this short episode.

He talked about how people now need between 21 - 24 touches before they make a purchase. It used to be 7 - 9!

With information more easily available, consumers want to do their own research before they take out their wallets. Some thoughts after listening to this episode:

1) It is no longer as simple as directing traffic and waiting for purchase. We need to guide customers through the journey to help them make the decision.

2) Your touch points should also include "micro moments" where the audience gets to know your brand. Be open about what you provide. Answer those questions that they may be searching about to help them decide.

3) Use different ways to engage with your community so you can understand them better. I love social media for this. It helps me know what they are looking for, then prepare the answers they need and send them to it.

Plan your marketing strategies with this in mind. Be a guide that leads them to understand what you do better, and share what you know to build the confidence that they made the right choice in choosing you.

Social media isn't difficult. It is just another way to talk to another human being.

If a stranger walks up to you with a weird package and asked you to eat whats in the package, would you eat it?

I know I wouldn't.

But if the stranger took the time to get to know you, show you what is in the package, then explained the benefits, why you needed it, showed you proof that it works, show how you can use it in your daily life, then asks you to try it.

Would you try it now?

I might.

The same applies to social media. Get to know them first. Win them over before trying to sell them.

How true is that?

The reasons we buy something is because it solves something for us, or it changes us emotionally. For every purchase, what happens is a transformation whether physically or emotionally.

If no changes happen, why do we even want to buy it?

The problem is most businesses sell their product and keep talking about the product. What your customers want to see is how can your product help me? And what changes will I feel when I buy your product.
