𝐀 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔⁣

We’re still thinking about the incredible energy and enthusiasm that filled our booth throughout the fair. It was a pleasure sharing our largest presentation to date — bringing together works by modern masters alongside contemporary voices shaping Philippine art today.⁣

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, lingered, and spent time with the works.⁣

Until next year? 🛋️🍷⁣

In her work, Erna Pirous’ optimism influences the fluidity of her forms and the brightness of her color palette. Through the dominance of bright hues such as yellow, light blue, purple, and pink, we can witness the various happenings in Erna Pirous’s life. From the natural landscapes she has resided in and visited, her spiritual experience during her visit to the Holy Land, to self-portraits of her children. Her techniques are similar to that which is typical of modern Indonesian artists, who generally embrace abstraction and an intense, non-naturalistic, Fauvist-influenced approach to color. Yet her chromatic sensibility seems to transcend its era. While many modern works tended toward darker tones – deep blues, reds, and browns – to convey strength before juxtaposing them with brighter accents, Erna’s compositions are distinguished by the dominance of luminous color. These are applied to canvas or paper with joy and confidence.

Art Agenda and Serambi Pirous presents 𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 #𝟗, a solo exhibition of works by 𝐄𝐫𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬, one of Indonesia’s women artists in the modernist era.

Amidst a cohort of Indonesian modernist artists preoccupied with grand narratives anchored in universal truths—using dark and strong color palette, Erna Pirous emerged as an exception. In her work, Erna Pirous’ optimism influences the fluidity of her forms and the brightness of her color palette. Through the dominance of bright hues such as yellow, light blue, purple, and pink, we can witness the various happenings in Erna Pirous’s life.

Join us for the exhibition opening and curatorial tour at Saturday, 7 March starting 4PM

Erna Pirous grew up in a family environment closely connected to music and education. Her father, Daeng Sutigna, was known as a music teacher and the innovator of the diatonic–chromatic angklung. This proximity shaped her musical sensitivity, leading her to become proficient at playing the piano before choosing to pursue her studies in fine art in 1962. The traces of her musical background resonate in the way she orchestrates feeling: emotional expression, joy, and spontaneity in her works unfold like a dynamic melodic line. For Erna, creating art is an event of play upon the canvas. What she requires is an honest space to gather the personal pulse of everyday life – a place where rhythm, memory, and emotion converge into visual form.

At AFP 2026, Art Agenda will be presenting our largest-ever collection to date since our first participation in 2019 - more than 80 works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries from modernist Philippine artists Ang Kiu Kok, Nena Saguil and Juvenal Sansó to contemporary artists Ronald Ventura and Geremy Shamala who capture the zeitgeist of our times.

The 110sqm booth is envisioned as the living room of a voracious art connoisseur, naturally passionate about Philippine art but also an avid collector of furniture and collectibles from international artists like Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Banksy.

Although their mediums differ, Siti F., Khayla Indiva, and Hilda Alhaque face similar pressures shaped by culture, media, and patriarchal norms. They work within the climate of fourth-wave feminism, where popular and neoliberal feminist ideas circulate widely yet often miss deeper structural issues. Their works do not reject these ideas directly. Instead, they attempt to show where such discourse falls short and open a space for reflecting on systems that still shape women’s lives through discrimination and individualistic values.

Born in Makassar in 1994, Siti moves between art and design to explore how the self is shaped by social constructs, developing her ideas through digital processes that extend into lenticular works and installation. Khayla, born in Bandung in 2002, uses soft pastels and charcoal to reflect on womanhood, memory, and nature as a living entity. Hilda, born in Kebumen in 1999, works with collage and mixed media to observe human behaviour through vibrant, layered images.
