Today saw another successful run of our Mediation Advocacy Workshop! 😊

Precautionary measures were put in place to minimise the risk of exposure to our staff and participants, including a smaller workshop size, health and travel declarations, and temperature screening upon arrival. Each participant also received a travel size hand sanitiser as part of our welcome pack. 😍

During the workshop, participants were taught the 4 Levels of Mediation Advocacy, i.e. the skills relevant to every Counsel in a mediation. Participants also put their newly-minted skills to the test in a fun Mystery Box Challenge. 😎

With our skills honed, tummies full, and hands sanitised, our week got off to a great start! Here are some highlights from the Workshop. 💜

MEDIATION ADVOCACY WORKSHOP – UNDERSTANDING YOUR ROLE AS COUNSEL IN A MEDIATION (2ND RUN)

Our SILE-accredited Mediation Advocacy Workshop is back for a 2nd Run on Monday, 24 February 2020!

In this half-day interactive workshop, participants will be taught how to prepare themselves and their clients for mediations, and to hone their mediation advocacy skills.

Participants who comply with the SILE Attendance Policy will be eligible to obtain 3.5 Public CPD Points.

Had an awesome time at the 3rd run of our SMU Peer Helpers Mediation Workshop.

During our 3 sessions, we covered:
(1) The Basics of Mediation: Content and Process;
(2) Communication Skills in Mediation: Active Listening, Questioning, and Reframing; and
(3) Advanced Issues in Mediation: Managing Emotional Parties and Managing Impasse.

What a passionate and inspiring bunch of students! 😍

The second workshop in our Young Practitioner Series, Litigation Drafting 101, was another yummy success! 😊

Participants were taught the essentials of drafting for litigation matters, as well as how to craft research memorandums, legal opinions, pleadings, affidavits, written submissions, and criminal representations.

Participants also put their drafting skills to the test in a series of interactive exercises and games. Good food, great company, and prizes galore. What’s not to love? ☺️

The first workshop in our Young Practitioner Series - Client Care & Legal Ethics - was an absolutely yummy success! 😬

We traded “war stories”, debated common ethical dilemmas, and played puzzles and games.

But the real highlight of the day must have been the delicious breakfast buffet spread including fluffy pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausages, croissants and more! 😋

That concludes our 3-day Mediation Workshop for the SMU Peer Helpers!

Today, our Trainer focused on Advanced Issues in Mediation: Managing Emotional Parties and Managing Impasse.

In our 3rd and final role play, students also experienced mediating an emotionally-charged dispute that got out of hand! 😂

Overall, a wonderful day of good food, good company, and great prizes. Till we meet again, SMU! 💜

Spent a cozy Friday afternoon at SMU for Day 1 of our Peer Helpers Mediation Workshop!

Lots of fun, laughter, and incisive questions. Students also tried their hand at mediating a simple dispute.

That’s a wrap for 2018! Our final 2 workshops for the year were conducted yesterday morning and afternoon, and boy did we have a blast! ☺️

Our Trainer explored Legal Research, Analysis, Strategy, and Drafting with the Participants, and though the day was long, spirits were high.

Laughter, games, and prizes galore, it was a great way to end our training year! 😬

That’s a wrap for our SMU Peer Helpers - Mediation Skills Workshop! 😎

Part III was entitled Advanced Issues in Mediation: Managing Emotional Parties & Managing Impasse, and aptly so! Our final role play exercise involved an emotionally-charged dispute that tested our Mediators to their limits. 😅

Amidst the laughter and stress, however, were important lessons on perceptions, perseverance, and creating movement whilst navigating a sea of emotions.
