Now, ask yourself:

◾ Are you creating space for meaningful conversations, or dominating them?
◾ Are your questions uncovering the real customer needs?
◾ Are you truly listening, or just waiting for your chance to respond?

In this video, I’ll break down how these skills can transform your sales approach. Watch now and start transforming your sales approach today. 💡

Are your personal values aligned with the values of your organization?

Wonderful to be able to introduce and facilitate a session using the ‘Leadership Value Cards’ in my leadership training workshop to help the senior and second tier leadership team identify their core personal values.

Why is it important for leaders in organizations to identify their own and the personal values of the people they lead?

The alignment of a person’s personal values with the values of the organization they work for is critical for fostering job satisfaction, engagement, and long-term success. When personal and organizational values are in harmony, employees feel a stronger sense of belonging, purpose, and motivation.

Here are five key reasons why it is essential to align personal and organizational values:

✅ Enhanced Job Satisfaction
Employees who share similar values with their organization are more likely to feel fulfilled in their roles. When the work they do aligns with their personal beliefs and principles, it creates a sense of purpose and intrinsic motivation.
✅ Increased Engagement and Productivity
Employees who resonate with an organization's values are more likely to feel emotionally connected to its mission. This connection drives higher levels of engagement, commitment, and discretionary effort.
✅ Stronger Ethical Decision-Making
When personal and organizational values are in sync, employees are more likely to uphold ethical standards and act in the organization’s best interests. They feel empowered to make decisions that reflect their values, fostering trust and integrity.
✅ Better Team Cohesion and Culture Fit
A shared value system among employees promotes a cohesive and collaborative work environment. It reduces friction, misunderstandings, and conflicts, as team members are driven by a common purpose.
✅ Reduced Turnover and Long-Term Commitment
Employees are more likely to remain loyal to an organization whose values reflect their own. When this alignment exists, work feels like an extension of their personal beliefs, reducing the likelihood of burnout and dissatisfaction.

Aligning personal and organizational values creates a win-win scenario. Employees feel valued and connected to their work, while organizations benefit from a motivated, ethical, and committed workforce. This synergy is a key driver of individual and collective success, making value alignment an essential consideration in hiring, culture-building, and leadership development.

Interested to identify your personal values and those of the people you lead and to know if your values are aligned with the values of your organization.

I’ll be glad to facilitate a Leadership Value discovery session for you and your team.

Leaders grow Leaders.

So blessed to be able to share leadership principles over the weekend at an off-site location with a group of hi-potential and 1st time leaders from a law service firm. This is the 3rd run of leadership training for this firm who is one of the most experienced and reputable law service firms in Singapore.

The firm grew rapidly over the past few years due to their ability to provide professional, high-quality, personalised, and timely services to all their clients.

The leader of this law firm recognised that the rapid growth of the firm within a few years was a blessing but can also put a strain and negatively impact their brand promise if nothing was done to develop more capable leaders to lead the various departments.

This started a partnership between our companies to develop their senior leadership team, hi-potential and 1st time leaders in the firm. By doing this, the firm can continue to provide the services they promised and grow their business to the next level.

An unexpected testimonial!

Surprised to receive such an encouraging and affirmative testimonial from a client after the sales training workshops that were conducted for their sales teams in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur in June 2024. This is a client that we have been working with and conducted sales training and coaching for more than two years for their entire global sales team.

The word ‘trusted’ mentioned in the client’s newsletter is an affirmation of the strong relationship we have developed over the years working together. Trust is an essential aspect in maintaining a long-term business relationship with a client. When trust is developed, a client knows that the training programs recommended by us are genuinely to help improve and uplevel the selling and leadership skills of their sales associates and sales leaders.

The other word ‘success’ mentioned in the newsletter is another testimony of the desired sales results achieved by their sales team after attending our sales training workshops.

A high % of salespeople do not sell…Why?

There are many reasons but I will share three reasons today.

🔷Not probing for Needs or Pain Points

As I shared in my previous post, the most important step in the sales cycle is the Discovery Meeting.

This is the time for the salesperson to ask probing questions to identify the explicit need of the potential buyer. When this need is correctly identified, a relevant solution can then be developed and presented, thus increasing the probability of securing the sale. Unfortunately, many salespeople, are just interested in telling the potential buyer about the features of their products and services in the hope of influencing them to buy.

Spend more time asking probing questions to identify the needs and you will increase the probability of securing more business when you can meet the needs of the potential buyer.

🔷Hearing but not Listening

In the old days, a good salesperson needed to speak well to present their products or services. However, selling these days require less talk and more listening skills. Many salespeople are not listening to the potential buyer but are merely hearing. There is a difference between Hearing and Listening.

Hearing is a physical act. It refers to the sounds that you hear. But Listening is an intellectual and emotional act - being aware of both verbal and non-verbal messages.

A professional salesperson spends time actively listening to what the potential buyer is sharing to get the message right the ‘first’ time. This helps the salesperson to avoid unnecessary problems, misunderstanding and mistakes.

🔷Not able to recognize buy signals

Many salespeople think that ‘Telling is Selling’ so they talk more than they listen. They are so focus on the need to complete their presentation. As a result, many times they totally miss to recognise buying signals.

Sometimes a potential buyer may have already taken out his credit from his wallet to buy but the salesperson cannot recognised this buying signal and continues to talk and present.

Include pauses during your presentation and ask questions to get buy-in from your potential buyer. The answers you receive will provide you with buying signals if your potential buyer is ready to buy.

‘Always be on the quest for continuous learning and personal growth’

This has always been one of my core values to improve myself & my professional speaking, training and coaching skills.

I am pleased to share that I have successfully completed all requirements in the ethical use of the Principles of Persuasion and have received the Cialdini Certified Professional and Coach certification.

These certifications were issued by the Cialdini Institute and the program was personally conducted by Dr. Robert Cialdini and his Faculty trainers.

The addition of this certification will be a major game changer to my Sales and Leadership training programs as I will be incorporating Dr. Cialdini’s science based 7 Principles of Persuasion.

The inclusion of the 7 Principles of Persuasion will help,

1. Sales teams be more influential ethically to close more sales.
2. Leaders in organizations to be more influential in motivating their teams to work more cohesively and improve staff retention.

Contact me if you are interested to know how I can help your Sales and Leadership teams be more influential in your organizations.

On page C1 of the Life section in The Straits Times on Monday, January 8 2024, there was an article that read,

Junior college or polytechnic?
Guide your child to pick the right path.
Consider his or her interests and strengths, and the way he or she learns best, advise educators.

This is a good way to guide our children in their selection of their tertiary studies.

However, as parents,
1. Do we really know the strengths of your child?
2. Do we really know the way our child learns best, i.e. as an Auditory, Visual or Kinesthetic learner?
3. Do we know which course to select that will match the future career options for our child based on his or her strengths?

If your answer is “No, I don’t know” or “I am not sure.”

Then let me help you to find the answers to these 3 questions through a simple personality assessment.

The results from this personality assessment will provide you and your child with accurate answers to the 3 questions. The results will also provide tips on how to create a conducive learning environment at home and how to study and be well prepared for exams.

To be successful at work and in life, we need to be doing things in our area of strength.

By knowing the answers to the 3 questions, it will save you and your child valuable time in knowing which course to select when he or she is going to Junior College or the Polytechnic.

Many children have done this personality assessment with me. And after a short 1-hour debrief session of the results together with their parents, they have gone on to select the most appropriate course that allows them to excel in their tertiary studies.

Feel free to send me a message if you are interested to find out how I can help you and your child select the most appropriate course so that your child will excel in his or her studies in Junior College or the Polytechnic.

I had the privilege of attending the premiere screening by Reel Lumina of "A Duty to Lead", featuring former CDF, LG (Ret) Winston Choo at the SingPost auditorium.

After the screening, which was a very inspirational interview, that is a must to watch, the General shared three essential leadership values, Duty, Integrity & Care that were instrumental in shaping his leadership style.

After the screening, LG (Ret) Winston Choo gladly fielded a Q&A session, sharing his views on leadership, marriage & family life.

At the ripe old age of 82, LG (Ret) Winston Choo was still very sharp, answering questions with confidence and clarity of mind. Despite his status as former CDF, he came across as someone who was warm, sincere, humble and a person of faith.

During the Q&A session, he shared a story of how he met an ex-soldier who was once under his command. He was pleasantly surprised when this ex-soldier told him, "Sir, you were really tough on us when we were under your command, but you cared for us. I will gladly go to war with you." What a show of respect to the General from this ex-soldier!

Care is one of the essential ingredients in leadership. That was how the great leader, Napoleon Bonaparte led his soldiers to victory. It was believed that he would often visit his soldiers in the evenings when they were in the battlefield to inquire if they had sufficient rations and clothing so that they were ready for battle.

I am also very proud to have my picture taken together with LG (Ret) Winston Choo and my son, Augustine Soong, who was the Director of this project and working with his team created this very inspirational interview.

I will share the link when the inspirational interview, "A Duty to Lead" is available for public viewing.

Another Saturday morning well spent at Nanyang Technological University conducting a Student/Career DISC debrief workshop for more than 18 student leaders from the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. The atmosphere during the workshop was relaxed and fun, and the student leaders were very participative.

Glad to be able to share some of my leadership experiences with the student leaders and help them have a better understanding of their future career options from their DISC reports.

Some valuable insights from the student leaders after the workshop.

“Everything was meaningful, and I learned a lot about different types of personalities and the way we can communicate and cooperate with others.”

“There is a need to adapt to the varying innate traits of others, in order to get things done well and efficiently in a team setting.”

“Learn on how to reflect and move towards my personal growth to become the best version of myself.”

“Analysing individual's report on the spot - helps to show how to use/understand the report.”
