Most of us start our business by offering services based on the technical skills we possess. This is a great start but to run a successful and thriving business, we need more than that.
Hereโs a real life storyโฆ..
In 2018, I was appointed to lead an out-source accounting and CFO service for a 7-๐๐๐๐๐๐, 50-๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ 15 ๐๐๐๐๐. They had employed two full-time accounts executives to keep their accounts, before we were appointed.
What comes to your mind when you hear of a business that has been around for almost 50 years, grossing 7 figures in revenue and has two full-time accounts executive?
You would think that they are profitable and well managed, with all up-to-date systems, processes, and infrastructure in place, wouldnโt you?
๐น๐, ๐น๐, ๐น๐. ๐ฟ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐!
Here are some common issues I found:
- The company has outgrown their old accounting system.
- The company was making losses and had barely 1% of net profits in better times.
- None of their staff understood finance and how to interpret their financial reports.
- There were inefficiencies in their service fulfilment processes.
- There were several loopholes in their service contracts.
- There service offering and rates were outdated.
- Most importantly, the existing accounts executives do not have experience nor expertise to help the company turnaround.
