2025 ended with a personal setback and didn’t leave time enough to take a moment of pause due to back to back Christmas workshops. I took off the last week of December - shutting down the studio and mentally shutting down myself to pause, recover and recharge

The grief lingers but I promise myself that it will get better.
Today was the first day when I could forget and just focus on making. Sun came out to help too ☀️☀️

Trying new forms here and some new things brewing at the studio.

Planning for this year was delayed but is in the process and I shall be back with some news and updates

Have a fantastic and blessed year ahead.

I think I was always an artist

My mom used to tell me a story about when I was very small and got lost at a fair where my parents had put up a food stall. They searched frantically, and eventually found a small crowd gathered somewhere. Only then did they realise it was their daughter—dancing all by herself, without a care or fear in the world—while people stood around watching. of course I have no recollection of this And I don’t have any love for dancing anymore… not now, at least.

Stories like these that I can no longer hear from my mom. Im still to come to terms that she’s not there any more.. and I dont have any of my parents with me.

Memories of my mother keep flooding my eyes.. but most of all I remember her most when I use my hands to make any thing- any craft, anything at all. She was the first craftsperson I ever knew, admired, and stood in awe of. My first teacher.

She could sew, embroider, knit and crotchet and also hundreds of other things to keep the house running.
I realise now how much of my aesthetic sense comes from her.
It was incredible to see the same care reflected in what she left behind—- a box of carefully kept laces, Crotchet thread and needles and designs.

I just hope that I will be able to honour her ; honour her skills and her faith in me.. She taught me these things believing that I would carry them forward. And in making, I think I already am.

Love you mom always. Keep happy and smiling wherever you are.

Wow, what a whirlwind few weeks it has been!

A big hello to all the lovely new folks who found Klay Kathaa after the Singapore Clay Festival — I’m so glad you’re here.💕

A few quick updates from the studio:
• Lots of new sign-ups for classes (thank you for the love and trust )
• I’m hosting an Open House soon — details in the previous post already
• And yes… a couple of Christmas workshops are on the way 🎄✨

For those who’ve just joined my journey — I’m Pooja, the hands, heart, and everything-in-between behind Klay Kathaa Ceramics. I’m a self-taught ceramic artist who works across wheel-thrown pieces, sculptural forms, and hand-built decor.

I run Klay Kathaa as a one-woman studio out of Bukit Merah , where I spend my days crafting tableware, creating sculptural home décor, firing tiny experimental pieces, and teaching intimate workshops. Every piece that leaves my studio is fully made, glazed, fired, photographed, packed (and fussed over!) by me.

And something I’m really excited to share — I was recently featured in a two-page magazine article that dives into my work, my journey into ceramics, and the story of how Klay Kathaa came to life. Seeing my sculptures, tableware, and process captured so beautifully felt surreal and incredibly meaningful. Still pinching myself. ☺️ I thank immensely Donna for interviewing me and beautifully capturing everything and more than what I would have asked for and for the opportunity ❤️. Truly grateful 🙏

सूरज का सातवां घोड़ा | the seventh horse of the sun

Multiple trials at the form; studying horse anatomy to get this as realistic as possible. I don’t do realistic sculptures, but I tried this one — and many before — to get an understanding of the form before altering it in the way I want to represent a figure and an expression.

This one I feel was the most perfect one, and I got the best result on the glaze, and decided that this one would be a showstopper for the upcoming event. In fact, I’ve liked it so much that I want to make a bigger one, almost life-size — just to see whether I can do it.
