A heartfelt sharing from Cheryl.

I came across something recently that stopped me in my tracks.

Learning to Pause.

Three words. And yet, sitting with them, I realised how rarely we actually do this β€” in meetings, in conversations, in decisions, in life.

We have been conditioned to equate speed with competence. To fill silence with words. To move on before we have truly arrived. The one who responds fastest is often mistaken for the one who thinks best.

But some of the most powerful moments I have witnessed β€” in a room, in a relationship, in a negotiation, in a presentation β€” began not with action, but with stillness.

A breath. A beat. A choice not to react, but to respond.

The pause is not hesitation. It is not weakness.

It is the space where clarity lives.

A mentor of mine often says: "Stop doing the wrong thing, instead of keep doing things for the sake of doing."

It stayed with me. Because how often do we fill our days with motion β€” meetings, tasks, deliverables β€” without ever stopping to ask whether any of it is actually moving us in the right direction?

The pause isn't just about slowing down. It is about having the courage to question what we are doing, and why.

I speak often about growing and transforming enterprises. But underneath every strategy, every conversation, every decision that moves a business forward β€” there is a human being. And that human being needs to learn, as much as anything else, how to pause.

This is something I feel deeply. And it is something I hope to share β€” not just in what we teach, but in how we teach it.
